Humax HDR - Ball 'Judder' : Have you noticed this?

I have had my HDR from launch and have noticed in the last year or so, that when I watch a screen with lots of small detail I get something that I can only describe as 'SLOW MOTION JUDDER'.

It only happens when watching football or tennis...infact SD & HD transmissions. Not close up images, just when the players and ball are very small. And the effect only happens around the ball - the part of the screen that is the fastest moving.

It happens on and off with no set pattern.

I have changed the video format (normally set to 1080i), changed the HDMI input...No difference. Samsung TV is set to just scan and changing 100hz settings makes no difference.

The effect is random and bloody irritating. When I rewind the live program it repeats itself exactly.

I have no such issue with Bluray - although I admit I have not watched a football game from bluray.

It only seems to happen when the picture is full of small detail..as if the box can not cope.

Any ideas?

It sounds like a fairly normal artefact of digitising a moving object.

No it's worse than that...although affecting a small part of screen, it is serious judder that makes the ball look like it is also moving in slow motion.

When you see it next time - note the signal strength and quality and if it is raining.

Its really bad with golf, it looks like the ball jumps back 1 foot and then moves 2 feet and then jumps back... I think it was a lot worse with the feed from the US too.

Wild thought: have you tried turning off any of your TV's "make the picture prettier" features?

This is a common problem with TVs that try and up the frame rate of the original 50Hz picture to 100Hz or more due to the way they generate the extra images. Look for a 'Game' mode or something like that to disable all your TV's extra processing.
