I own an HTC desire and love it... battery isn't the best but it is a smart phone... and no smartphone has a battery that's any good...
check out a few of my vids for my desire... http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=US&c...&v=FxF9CCEnQPY http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=US&c...&v=lnb1PnNH_y8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=US&c...&v=r6o80KBhB6A |

I've played with both in store and prefer the Desire HD, and my mum has now bought the HD and she loves it, and I'm thinking of getting one too soon. That or cancel my current contract and go on monthly O2 simplicity until the new Desire comes out. And see how that is.

I just wasn't sure what the new Desire was called. But yes, the Desire S then. I might well hang on til May and see then. |

Yes that's what I meant. I knew it was an upgrade to the Desire not the HD, just saying people reckon that it might well be better than even the Desire HD.
Dont even think its better than the original desire. Specs point to pretty poor upgrade. Not even close to a HD. |

I have just ordered a HTC Desire in the last hour and have spent hours pouing over different phones and differet plans. The Desire HD is the better phone but for my limited needs the Desire should suffice. I believe it has slightly better battery and is smaller. The Desire HD has faster processor, higher res screen (not that important on a mobile device). Fingers crossed I made the right choice as there was only a fiver a month and extra six months contract over the HD.

make sure to keep the screen brightness down and keep the email apps to refresh once a day/manually if you want that battery to go a little further... I bought a spare battery off HTC store for £35 including shipping... to me its not that expensive as its worth every penny because I use my desire a lot... so its needed... but a very good mobile |

Could I just ask about the spare batteries? are they easy to swap as on my old mobiles swapping the batteries all the time would weaken the rigidity of the back? I looked into buying a spare as I think this is going to be a must when going out for a while.

Also not a major deal but can you get Tumblr on either phone? |

The desire I ordered is from Buymobilephones.co.uk, They do not have a very good reputation but this is mainly due to them not sending out free gifts. I have gone for a 18month contract, 300 mins and text, unlimited internet (think this is capped at 500mb) on T-mobile for £25plus pence. They say I will get £50 automatic cashback after 90days (fingers crossed) and £30 cashback from quidco (again fingers crossed) even without the cashback deals it is the best offer out there. It is a bit of a gamble but I can return in seven days if they mess up (reports of wrong sim/network and taking weeks to resolve) but my wife got her phone 3-4 years ago and I got a free xbox no trouble apart from the insurance took ages to cancel. This time I have deselected the free insurance (I have it with my bank account) so hopefully this will aleviate any problems.

So in all then would you recommend the Desire over the HD?

I have a Desire, a mate in the office has just got a Desire HD. The UI is pretty much the same on the Desire and Desire HD, you can fit the same number of icons on the screen. The main differences are the slightly larger screen, higher resolution camera, processor and extra storage built in to the Desire HD. Having had a play with the Desire HD it just didn't feel that much quicker to the normal Desire to me. Reviews everywhere say if you want a better battery life go for the Desire.
My personal opinion on battery life is if you want a phone that does everything you have to expect the battery to be worse than a basic phone which only handles internet, text and calls. |

The battery is smaller, 1230 mAh at versus 1400 mAh, but the talk time is longer, at 550 versus 400, so I think the phone must be more efficient and that makes up for the smaller battery. You can buy 3rd party batteries that are larger but, from reports, don't seem to last longer, so I wouldn't pay much attention to the rated capacity. I think the screen does use more power when you are using it. On stand-by I get better than 1% an hour. I charge it overnight, don't use it at work and when I get home it's at 93% after 9 hours. In use it's more like 20% an hour, so I use it for a couple of hours in the evening and its down to 50%, and I need to charge it overnight again. But as it easily gets through a day the battery life is fine for me. When people have severe problems, they are usually suffering from a bug or a rogue app that's consuming all their power. |

The camera is better, if you tweak the defaults.

See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875230 for HD camera advice. The main points are to disable sharpening, switch white balance to Fluorescent when using flash, and focus manually.

Er no it doesnt, less internal memory, smaller screen.
4 inch vs 4.3 - again a 0.3 difference. Incredible S has bigger battery, lighter weight and front facing camera (great for skype and gtalk). Overalll Incredible S is a better choice. |
