So... I bought an Advent Vega and installed Modaco R8 to get access to the marketplace. Logged into the market with my Google account and downloaded a few free games. This morning I went back into market and bought an app. It detected that I had a Google Checkout account and had my registered credit card as an option.

Here's my worry - all I had to do was click once and the app was bought, which is pretty slick BUT where's the security? I can't even lend the tablet to anyone because I'm handing over my Google Checkout account with it unsecured.

I can go into my Checkout account and deregister my credit card but it seems like overkill.

Shouldn't there be password protection like on the Apple Marketplace?

If the sim is removed and new one used a password will be required

You can get a refund if you uninstall in the first 15mins. I thought it used to be a lot longer ie 24hours. So it's more of an issue than I thought.
Though it begs the question of why you are lending your tablet to someone if you can't trust them.

I've just no bought any apps yet.
Is there no parental controls etc that do the biz?

It was 24 hours, but Google have reduced it in an effort to stop people abusing the system. Lots of people were buying the apps and then getting them refunded, but then continuing to use them. Google also have a system in place with a license which checks back to see if the license is current. If the app's been refunded, it's no longer licensed and so shouldn't work.

Don't know how many developers have implemented that yet though.

I find the constant need to enter my password in the App Store a pain. I'd much prefer to be able to download what I want, when I want, without having to spend 30 secs entering my password every other time. And don't get me started on the fact that if someone gets hold of your iTunes account email and tries to crack the password, even if they don't Apple will keep locking YOU out until you change it. Sounds to me like you need more trust, and be thankful Google aren't as overly paranoid as Apple.

Sure, but how will you stop them using up your minutes/texts/data allowance on your contract or reducing your £ balance on payg?

I would expect any payment system to require authentication by the actual account holder and not the person using the physical tablet device.
