Can any1 help!
Hi , just moved into new home and the previous owners have cut all the tv coax cables in the attic and taken the aerial , amp and splitters etc . I have 7 cables entering the attic from various rooms. 3 of these coax cables come from the main living room which there is a single and a double wall socket . Any ideas why ? Is it to supply sky to the other rooms ? Any answers would be welcome. Thanks

If it's like the multi room distribution system that I inherited in this house then it might go something like this ...
The three into the main living room could be - 1. Main aerial feed from roof into Sky box or cable box. 2. That feed returning to input of distribution box in attic ( with the ability to distribute sky/cable signal to other rooms). 3. return feed back to living room for your TV (freeview for telly). With this set up you will get an aerial feed to every room that is wired and a signal that also carries, over analogue, anything that is being played on the Sky box / Cable box in the living room. The 4 coax connections you have for the other rooms look after themselves. They are just connected to the outputs on the distribution box you'll need in the attic. This is basically how mine works. If I'm watching cable in the living room then I use the hdmi connection straight from the box into the TV. If I want to watch a cable channel in the bedroom or in the kitchen then I just select the tuned analogue channel on the relevent TV. |

Most likely one lead to the lounge will have had one satellite connection with a terrestrial tv and/or radio aerial diplexed/triplexed onto it. The second will be for a second satellite connection for use with a twin tuner sat pvr. The third cable is the return cable designed to be connected to a rf modulator to send the output of the lounge box back to the loft to distribute terrestrial aerial and the box output to the other rooms. Normally this will be from the rf2 output of a sky box which provides dc power to allow the sky box to be controlled remotely using magic eyes. A magic eye compatible distribution amp in the loft is required for this.

Unless they said they were going to take all this stuff isn't it illegal?
If they purchased the equipment and installed it then they are perfectly entitled to remove it. |

Why?
If they purchased the equipment and installed it then they are perfectly entitled to remove it. Unless it specifically states that the cables etc were to be left then they can take what they like. |

I have moved into a place and the UHF coax wiring uses those round mains junction boxes.
They also had 3 aerials at one time (seen on Estate Agents' pic) |

In my set-up I have 1 terrestrial TV, 1 FM radio, 1 DAB radio and 1 LNB for satellite all combined in one down cable I have a 1 LNB for satellite in a second down cable I also have 1 up cable carrying TV combined RF that could have the modulated signals from any of my under TV boxes. You may have two down leads for satellite (needed for twin tuner satellite PVRs) and 1 cable carrying TV aerial signals. One of the cables, as you suggest could be for a RF return to distribute the output from a box to other rooms. How many input sources do you have? 1 TV aerial? 2/4 Signals from a quad LNB on a satellite dish? |

Do you have a Sky box and do you want to distribute it's output to the other tellys in the house?
If the answer to that is no then ignore the uplink from the living room. However if you do want to use Sky then you need to feed the aerial directly to the living room not the amplifier. This then plugs into the RF in of the Sky box. You then take RF 2 out of the Sky box back up to the loft and plug that into the UHF in socket of the amp, where the aerial is now. The RF 2 output of the Sky box will be a mix of the signals on the aerial and the signal produced by the Sky box from whatever channel it is set to at the time. The Full output can be used to feed a passive splitter to extend the number of rooms fed from the aerial. |

I have heard of people even removing light bulbs from properties they leave - miserable gits!
Unless it specifically states that the cables etc were to be left then they can take what they like. Now I thought that had changed and it's the other way around.. You can't take your central heating with you when you move can you |
