I posted this in Gd but might be better here!

Anyway I was just wondering if there were any mobiles that had the ability to block/reject numbers on them? And if it worked on a txt message too? Or can this only be done through your network?

Thanks!

If there is no way to block the number a sort of work around might be to use the phone's address book creatively.

Many phones let you group certain contacts into groups, eg one for close family. And usually you can assign different ringtones to different groups. If the phone can do this it might be possible to put the offending number(s) in a group and assign a silent ring tone to it. So even though the calls are not blocked you don't hear it ringing. Might be a harder task preventing them going to voice mail though.

And texts probably won't be blocked by this either.

Ah ok-just my friend thinks someone has done this to her? In fact they told her they had her blocked-and I have never heard of this before?

Thanks for the help!

If you have a blackberry there is an application called Mcall Manager Pro and a free one called Mr Number Call Block (they may be available for other phones).
They work very well by putting unwanted numbers on a black list and you can choose how the call is blocked. i.e send it straight to voicemail, or pick up and hangup (that is the best way you don't get any indication that anyone has called). I believe Mr Number may also work for text messages.
Hope this helps

Yes I have this app on my Blackberry. Works VERY well too. Wish I'd had this app sooner

Early Samsung phones had this feature. I had a model that began with a D and it could block calls. Never used it so don't know how effective is was. You could download the handbooks on some of the new phones and see if the feature is still there.

In threads like this there's always one idiot who turns up and says "Ask your network to block the number from calling you".

So just in case one of those numpties appears, let's get this straight - the networks cannot and will not block a number from calling you..

My friend had a samsung phone with this feature. Whenever he blocked us apparently he had to call Orange to ask them to unblock the number for him.

Either that or he just took us off his blocked list.
