Mine was the Nokia 5800 too, although I had the Samsung U600 before that which had touch buttons, but not a touch screen...

First touch screen PDA was a Psion 3 series in about 1995. My first touch screen phone was a QTek S110 in 2005.

HTC HD7 is my first. Touch was not pleasant until capacitive touchscreens came around. Fiddly little styli!

My Samsung did have an optical joystick which involved touch.

Mine is the Motorola Defy.

What is the best way to touch a screen?

Is it heat or conductivity that works?

If I have cold hands it can sometimes take a few taps before I get a hit especially with page numbers on Opera Mini on the DS threads.

That was my first touch screen phone & must admit it put me off. Hated it. So unresponsive.

Below are a couple of links to articles about resistive vs. capacitive touch screens for mobile phones. Apple pioneered the widespread introduction of capacitive screens on the iPhone and that screen type is now taking over from the older resistive technology.

HTC Touch (P3450/Elf). It was alright in its day, and it would still be decent now to people who wouldn't think of streaming video, gaming and such.

I grew tired of the touch focus though. Not enough buttons. I needed QWERTY so I went to the G1 later. I'll get a Desire Z when the price goes down. I'm not paying a months rent for a phone!

Yes, a true early touch screen adopter.

Mine was an SE p900, circa 2003.

I never had any problem with resistive screens. Most of the UI should be designed with large buttons that can be operated by fingers. Being able to use a stylus for precision was a valuable option, especially when the screens themselves were relatively small. It may have helped that I have good fingernails. If you bite your nails then (a) you're disgusting; (b) you've damaged your ability to use resistive screens.

I have had trouble with capacitive screens. They sometimes react when my finger just goes near them without touching, and it's hard to get precise.
