The SE X8 doesn't seem to have many good reviews but I'm very happy with mine. I think a lot of the reviews seemed to be comparing it to more expensive phones which, for my uses, I could neither justify or afford. Mine came with 2.1 Eclair, but that seems to be the last update they're going to issue. If having the latest version of Android is important to you it's worth bearing in mind. For the price, I'm impressed.

How does it run? Smoothly? Is internet good?
Not sure I understand this 2.1 Eclair and android versions though. Music player any good? It runs very smoothly, youtube, browsing etc is fine, volume is clear. Battery life seems good, particularly when I'm reading and hearing horror stories about other smartphones' battery use. I'm not an Android expert. 2.1 is compatible with nearly all of the apps on the market which is what's important to me but I know others will want the improved/ extra functionality which is bound to come with any future releases. It does everything I want, only you can decide if that's enough for you (iyswim). |

The music player's okay although I haven't really got used to the interface. That could be down to me as I mainly use an Ipod Classic for music/ podcasts etc for the amount of storage (few phones could compete with 160gb). On that basis I may not be the best person to ask.

Can you also write texts by touching the screen? |

I have a Nokia 5230 at the moment.
Does this X8 have a keyboard which slides from out the back of the phone? Can you also write texts by touching the screen? The x8 has a virtual keyboard on the touchscreen. I found it a bit tricky at first, being used to the feel of physical keys but now I can text as fast as I need. The relatively small screen means it seems easier (for me) in landscape (widthways) than vertical display. |

I'm tempted to get it. I would get £40 for recycling my 5230, then £12 through Quidco, and a £10 Accessories Voucher. The phone is £99 with 3.

Thing is, BBC iPlayer won't work on Andorid phones if they are running anything less than 2.2. Since SE has said that none of the first round of Xperia phones [X10, X10 Mini/Pro and X8] are getting anything newer than 2.1, I'd avoid.
Go for the Orange San Fransico or wait till the new HTC Wildfire is released. |
