Picture turning blue
Hi
Having a problem with my Sony 28 inch Widescreen, couple of years old. The screen has started intemittently turning blue, then clearing again, you can still see the picture quite clearly. It stays blue for a few seconds then clears and may do this for a short while. Then it might be ok for a few hours before doing it again. Any ideas? |

Sounds like the tube. My mother-in-law had the same problem. It started with blue lines appearing on the screen then the whole screen went blue. Sometimes it switched the TV off then back on and it was normal again. Engineer came out took one look and said youy need a new tube. Sorry its not good news.

It's possible that there might be a dry joint on a connection to the tube.. a component that supplies the red drive might be intermittent and when the TV warms up, the bad joint breaks and stops one colour getting through...
It equally could be the tube though ![]() A very non technical approach is to give the TV a careful thump when the fault occurs... if the picture comes back ok, this indicates it's most likely a dry joint(S) and not too costly to fix.....- please note this is not a technical way to diagnose faults at all!... don't thump it too hard either! |

Thanks for the replies.
There is a hifi speaker near the TV, but this has been there all the time and is rarely used. It is on the floor near the TV, but not actually touching or anything. It does seem to happen after the TV has been turned on a while and is solved by turning the TV off and back on again. The picture turns blue and back to normal in stages, over a period of a few seconds. When it returned from blue yesterday it seemed to have a green tinge to it before it got back to normal. I'll give it a slap next time it does it and let you know. Thanks |

You don't say when this is happening?
What i mean is when it happens are you always watching something through the SCART? e.g. Set Top Box, DVD, Game Console etc If you are and are using RGB then it could simply be that one or more of the cables carrying the Reg, Green and Blue is faulty (or even just a loose connection at one end) e.g. if the red or green connection failed then the image would be over blue. If what you are watching is on SCART then its definately worth trying a different cable or at least dropping back to composite to see if this makes any difference. |

AAAAAHHH, the dreaded green tint!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had a 21" Sony TV for about 15 years, in 2000, the screen started getting a green tint, we sent it to our local fella to get it fixed and it came back fine (he replaced a transistor or something). A few months later it appeared again and the tube was apparantly the problem so we scrapped it and got a nice new Philips 24PW6006! I'm not an engineer BTW!!!! You could probably tell. P.S. The slap worked for us for a bit. |

It's definitley the TV. It happens thru RGB, Scart and when just watching the TV thru the aerial.
