Advice Please- Retrieving Texts off Phone with Broken Screen?

Dunno how to move this from the other board.

I have an Nokia 2610 phone with a cracked screen so you can't see anything. I'd really like to keep some of the texts on there though and was wondering if there was a way of doing this? The phone is still fully functional (other than the fact that you can't see anything).

Not sure if this phone will even allow you to save to SIM, otherwise i guess i could, using an unbroken version of the phone, work out the keys needed to press to save messages to phone. Otherwise, is there a way to get the memory out of it, would that be possible?

Cheers

Never understood why people save texts.

People getting really upset when they lose a text.

It's just text

I have no idea what nokia's can do but I know that on Sony Erricsons if you connect the phone to a computer (PC) then use their software you can read texts and do all sorts of stuff

You can do that with Nokia handsets, but the 2610 is an older no-frills (but v good) device with no easy way of connecting to a PC. I can't think of a straightforward way to do it, other than a screen replacement (not too expensive) or a data recovery firm.

Some of your favoured messages may be stored on the SIM, so plonk the SIM card into another phone, and see what comes up.

Aside from replacing the screen, your options are limited for texts stuck in the phone memory. You can get a datacable for it for around a fiver, then with the correct software (not necessarily that supplied by Nokia), you should be able to back-up your texts to PC. If you're lucky, the handset will just need to be on and connected. If you're unlucky, you will have to ask around in a Nokia forum for any button sequence you will need to press on handset.

Off topic: I can't understand FMs who see the question 'how do I do x', and rush to reply, 'you shouldn't do x'. The first responder didn't offer any help, or an alternative, and seemed to not even understand the question posed, as there are many valid reasons why someone would want to preserve an SMS message. To some extent they have taken over the role of postcards and lovenotes in daily life.
