HDMI Switching FOX T2 PVR
Preston Baz
27-02-2011
Hi.....I'm a long time owner of a PVR9200 and about to upgrade to the T2 PVR. I just have a couple of questions if someone could help...

1. When you are watching TV on your TV's tuner, if a recording starts on the Humax does it automatically switch to the Humax recording when linked through HDMi?

2. Has there been any advance on taking files off the humax to convert to DVD...if there is a post on here a link would be helpful.

Thanks in advance for any answers

Question 1 depends on the TV. Panasonic TV's auto switch to hdmi 1 based on port activity, connecting to the other hdmi ports avoids any problems. Normally auto hdmi selection requires CEC which afaik the hdr-fox does not have. I don't have the Freeview+ box but from reading other posts it appears to do the same as Foxsat-hdr in that it activates the hdmi output for a short period when it turns on 15 mins before a recording is due.

Lots of ways to get a dvd from the SD transport stream files, easiest is Videoredo TV suite (it's not free but you can try it for free).

Unlike the satellite box the fox encrypts all recordings to the internal hdd. To remove this you have to copy the recordings to an external usb drive.

I should of said it will be connected to a Sony, but I don't want it to switch automatically as that would be really annoying.

Thanks for your answers

My Hummys are connected to my Panasonic on HDMI 2 & 3 to overcome the auto switching annoyance.

It also does this with the scart, which is nothing short of a bloomin' nuisance.

So does the Foxsat-hdr which is why I connect using hdmi only

Remove pin 8 from the scart plug (or cut the wire for pin 8) and that will stop the TV from auto switching. For more info:

Me too - I've got my BluRay player attached to HDMI 1. After all, if that is switched on it's because I want to watch a DVD.

Thanks, but we shouldn't have to go to such lengths. Humax should be on the ball and get the illogical video output signalling sorted out.

I totally agree! Bringing the PVR out of standby implies you want to watch something, this (and only this) should be what triggers the SCART/HDMI switching. Recording should not. Cutting pin 8 on your SCART would mean you would have to switch manually every time. Everyone's entitled to their own personal opinion on whether this is an acceptable solution of course, except for Humax! They should fix the logic to work properly. Other manufacturers have been making VCRs for years which got this right. There's no excuse for a £300 PVR not to do this correctly. If it's not possible to write the software to make it do this properly then it's a hardware design flaw that they should own up to.

You've all got me thinking the worse now after my original question because I would find auto switching when a recording starts really annoying.
My Sony blu-ray is connected to HDMI 4 and this automatically switch when it comes on. So would this be the same for the Humax?
Has anyone got the Humax connected to a Sony (via HDMi) who can say if it does automatically switch?

Thanks in advance

The sony bluray will have Sony's version of cec so one would expect it to auto switch with a Sony TV. Akaik the Fox does not have any form of CEC so it should be fine. The foxsat-hdr does not auto switch on any of the hdmi inputs on my Sony TV and is lot listed in the HDMI Devices list.
