Really? It's £160 though on PAYG which I would then use with my existing contract sim on 3.

It is what it is: a budget Android phone. The screen quality isn't very good [240*320] and the processor is poor in terms of others on the market. On the upside, it has 2.2 so it will run faster than other 2.1 phones, however I don't know how well it would cope with the newer 2.2 only Apps [Youtube, BBC iPlayer etc]

It will suit you for your needs, but don't expect it to play any games properly [they will be slow and juddery] or do more demanding tasks [multitasking too much will slow the phone down].

If I were you, I'd wait for the Wildfire S - It has more ROM, a better processor, a better screen, it runs 2.3 and supports the new HTC Sense website.

I have this phone and I'm happy with it, but the processor speed can be an issue, particularly when texting. OFten you can be texting or writing on a forum like this and if you type too fast, it doesn't set the letter case eor the 2nd letter of the sentence, ane the predictive text sonetimes doesn't think fast enough to type the words. I have typed this on the wildfire uncorrected to illustrate and you'll spot a few such issues in the previous sentence.

IT's more an issue when typing on forums like this though, as it is having to multi task, displaying the web page and creating the text as it's typed.

the speed issue becomes much more noticeable the more adept you become at using the phone of course, as running through the functions becomes 2nd nature.

Get it from Phones4U. It's £129 on T-Mobile but the phone is unlocked. Then just use the 3 SIM.

I am thinking of getting this phone as well, but also looking at the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini for mainly texts and internet.

If you want free skype and free windows messenger, it has to be a 3 version as it has the 3 software within it.

Does anyone know when the Wildfire S will be released?

Have looked online but it just mentions that it's 'coming soon'.

Despite the flaws that people have mentioned I still think the Wildfire is a decent phone for the price. Like the fact that it has a good camera and a radio.

Hopefully the newer version will address the speed and screen resolution issues, but I'd imagine the price will increase quite a bit.

I have the wildfire.got it 2 weeks ago.

Nothing wrong with it...resolution is fine..

I player doest work with 2.1 but may with 2.2.

Internet, email, text calls, all good.

and on "3" I upgraded from £30 T £25 a month and now have the "one" plan.

I get 5000 minutes....2 or 3,000 texts and unlimite internet and data.

I just recently purchased one. Absolutely love it. Much better than my previous HTC (Windows).

Love it even more now I've managed to turn some of the battery sapping features off too.

I wouldn't buy a phone, just because it has or can contain I player.

UNLESS you have a good data policy,

Got mine o 2.2 and good.

Solid build quality, htc sense is excellent, 2.2 runs nicely. In fact navigating screens/widgets seems faster than my Galaxy S at times which I think is down to neat coding by htc cause it's no where near as powerful..

It's only let down is the resolution of 240by320... rules some of the apps out in the market but there's still huge choice. And the screen is still pretty bright and clear. Touch screen is very responsive, browsing web etc is all aok... just needs a little bit of zoom to see text...... Camera is 5mp and takes high quality pics IMO. They look good on PC/printed out.

My wife loves her wildfire and I got it from phones4u for £129, it came factory unlocked. (had to buy a £10 tmobile top up, spent that credit and then chucked the sim back in the box)

edit: never knew iplayer didn't work on this phone, just tried it to see, oh well, she doesn't use iplayer anyway even on the v+hd or pc.

It does look like a nice phone, but seems a little basic for the price.

i thought it was good value for £129, if the screen res was better it'd be the perfect budget handset.

I've had this for a few days. I paid £80 for it in Carphone Warehouse (1 month SIM only contract, intend to cancel after a month)

The only major drawback so far is the battery life, I'm charging it up daily at the moment.

It's my first smartphone and it's a bit complicated for me I wouldn't recommend if you're a bit of a technophobe like myself.

HTC smartphones do have battery issues...BUT

I dont use mine for internet/facebook etc....much.

So battery life is not an issue for me.

ALSO the more apps etc you run....well. like a laptop.

don't batter the phone it's not healthy... my wife gets about two days out of a full charge but she's like me, if you're not using it turn it off. Wifi scanning, gps, bluetooth etc are easily turned off from a control widget, as probably you know.

I've personally turned off "Always On Mobile Data" and "Background Sync".

I also only switch on Internet and Wi-Fi when I'm actually using it.

Gone from 15 hours battery life to 3-5 days!
