No one is denying that iOS is the leader when compared to Android. But these last couple of threads in the mobile forums have been about the recent upturn of Android sales against iOS. Not who is winning overall since the first iPhone came out.”

Yes, but many of the iOS devices have been replaced and are no longer in use.

I am afraid hard sales numbers are factual. These figures from uSwitch look like something done on the back of a fagpacket. Notice no one else is agreeing with them.

It clearly shows in Eurpoe over the last year the number of iOS users dropped and Android increased. If you look at the UK statistics iOS dropped even further.”

The number of iOS users has not dropped, but increased. iPhone sales have increased a great deal in the last year. A massive increase in fact. More people are buying iPhones each year.

It's now being recognized more often as a serious alternative to the iOS and this is backed up by excellent sales figures last year.”

Android phones are being activated at about 300,000 a day and iPhones (not iPads or iPod Touches) at 188,000 a day.
I don't dispute that. What I do dispute is that one Android handset such as the HTC Desire is outselling the iPhone. It isn't.

Sorry, I don't follow.

Maybe I worded that wrongly. That graph, I assume it shows marketshare? If so it clearly shows the iOS share is dropping.

OK so someone has provided a link which suggest it has. Do we have one which shows otherwise? I'm not saying the figures are correct, I'm just saying do we have anything else to go on?

I still have an A1200 with 4mb ram upgrade and massive 540mb HDD, which still boots in under 10 seconds Amiga OS is still being developed, and although a very niche OS does look rather nice

You must have missed the link I posted earlier which is here
Which does confirm what Val is saying, namely that Android is outselling iOS, but for individual handsets Iphone outsells the best selling Android handset.

What you said was that the numbers using iOS were dropping, that isn't the case. They are up 86% over the last year.

16.24 million units, up 86 percent from 8.74 million units a year earlier.

Apple's market share is expected to hit 19% this year and HTCs 12% so while Android will be larger than Apple, HTC will not sell more phones than the iPhone. Apple will replace Nokia as the largest manufacturer of Smartphones.

"expected to" does not equate to fact. More "piffle". Must try harder.

That's an interesting set of figures, and no surprise given the general superiority of the Desire to other phones which just don't seem able to keep the pace.

Interesting comments about being Force-fed Android. I never thought about it like that but it's actually very true

Indeed.

I've always enjoyed the choice of going between Nokia, Sony Ericsson. Samsung for there own software.

Android had to become standard as they required a platform to challenge Apple on the app Market.

But remember unlike Apple the quality of the actual phone depends on what you buy. I genuinely think people buy Android ready phones for the features or design over the platform. However Blackberry also have the same in common with Apple they go for design and OS like Blackberry messenger.

So when you buy your next Android you won't know what to expect next year unlike Apple constantly updating it's phones.

Actually its not. Not even close.

You still have a choice of iOS, WebOS, Symbian, Windows 7 phone, samsungs own software, SE's own software and Android.

So who exactly is force fed? People still have the choice of all of them yet seem to want to jump onto Android.

Internet searches are not equivalent to sales. Must live in the real world.

But I then corrected myself by saying that the graph which you posted a link to was actually showing marketshare. Am I correct in saying that?

Know what you mean. I arrived in Portugal on Saturday night, logged on and it said I was banned for two days It seems someone was obsessed with a post of mine and felt a compulsion to report me, they dissed me which I thought was out of order. What happened to the good old days of jolly banter?

Red, this is what happens when you hit a raw nerve on another member, for some the truth hurts.
