No digital signal to DVD but freeview OK...confused

Hi,

Just gone to set my DVD to record from its own digital tuner and I can't see any of the digital channels....all that is there is the external line 1 to record from SKY. On checking the signal strength it says 0%.

However the digital channels are fine on the digital tuner within the TV so I don't understand what us happening. They were there last week because i recorded a film that I can see on the list of recorded ietms on the HDD.

I've not changed anything or messed about with any of the inputs so what is going on?

Take the aerial cable from the TV and plug it directly into the DVDR. If you get a signal you can rule out problems with the DVD itsself.
If so may be the coax connection to the DVD

Ive got the same setup in my conservatory ie another digital TV and DVD and the same thing is happening there.....TV channels OK but none on DVD.

What make and model of DVD recorder are you using? How have you got the aerial leads connected?

The aerial lead would normally go to the DVD first then from there to the TV. I assume that is how you have it set up?

Yes its a simple setup in the other room as only the DVD and TV. Whereas in the main room it is a bit complicated with SKY so I'm not sure what cable is where. But in both rooms the digital channels were available at the weekend and have literally disappeared after working fine!

What recorder are you using. This will help us suggest any solution or checks you can make.

I may sound like a broken record but the more info you can give the easier it is to figure out what may be going on.

Both DVD recorders are Sony RDR HXD-870.

The only thing that has changed recently is that I've had a small TV put in kitchen that also gets SKY somehow. Hoever I've definately used the digital channels to record since that was installed but this weekend I used the line 1 input on the DVD recorder to copy something onto DVD from SKY. Its when i was changing the input back from L1 that I couldn't find D001 ie BBC1 on the DVD recorder.

I had the same problem a while back, it is a known issue that was resolved with a firmware update, I have copied the link below with all the details required (Its not as hard as it looks)

After the update you will need to run the digital tuning option again.

Good Luck!

I was just interested to know if that firmware update fixed your channel issue?

I followed DP's instructions but didn't get to see what version I had so didn't go any further. Next night I decided to retune the DVD from scratch and all the channels came back so problem solved. Not sure why they disappeared but put it down to one of those oddities!
