Over The Rainbow winner Danielle Hope reveals all about her "magical" opening night in The Wizard of Oz

Wizard of Oz star Danielle Hope’s biggest opening night worry was that Toto would make a mess on the stage.

And the Over The Rainbow winner, 18, says her fear for her four-legged co-star meant she didn’t have time to be nervous as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical premiered.

Danielle joked: “I was too busy trying to keep the dog calm. He’s my responsibility and he’d never seen the audience before. It’s bound to happen eventually!”

In a London Palladium full of acting royalty – including Sir Michael Caine, Barbara Windsor and Rowan Atkinson, – Danielle had every right to be nervy on her big night.

But show supremo Lord Lloyd-Webber was worried she wasn’t tense enough.

Danielle added: “Andrew was actually telling me I was too calm, he was telling me to get worked up, but in the end the stage was where I felt most comfortable.

“Once I stepped out, everything we’ve been working on for months came to life and just felt fantastic.”

The show – which also sees a return to the West End for Phantom of the Opera legend Michael Crawford – won rave reviews yesterday after Tuesday’s debut.

Despite that, Danielle says she hasn’t been able to read them. She says: “I’m still not sure whether I am going to or not.”
