Ok i will try keep this simple.

I am thinking of buying a Humax foxsat hdr and have an existing sky dish with twin lnb/2 cable feeds so i should have no problem connecting.

However what i need to know is i need to connect a second freesat box up in another room so can i use the foxsats lnb out to connect up this 2nd box or do i need a quad lnb with a third cable. ?

Has anybody tied this with success ?

It's far from an ideal solution. With the hdr on or recording the channels available to the sky box will be limited to ones sharing the same frequency band (high/low) and polarisation (H/V). The chances are you already have a quad lnb (Sky don't fit twins and they don't make twins for Sky miidishes). Pretty certain all you need is a length of coax and two f connectors

You need a quad LNB, which you probably already have - just run a third cable.

The LNB output isn't designed for that, it's basically an historical 'left over' from the box the HDR was developed from.

The "LNB1 Out" is looped into "LNB2 In" to run the HDR in single feed mode.

So in single feed and looping into lnb2 does that limit the number of channels i can watch while recording is taking place? What exactly are the penalties of this looping ?

If you use one LNB in loop through you are limited to channels that are on the same band and have the same polarisation.

It's a pretty serious restriction and means that you need to plan very carefully if you want to watch and record different channels or record two channels.

To try and answer your question about limitations.

Firstly it depends on which postcode you use.

For instance if you a northern postcode you can dual record both BBC-HD channels and watch ITV1-HD (also live pause it).

In round figures for most recordings being made by tuner 1 make a little less than 50% of the other channels available for recording. If one of the channels is a bbc1 switching to record a bbc region with the opposite polarisation can make the other a bit less than 50% accessible for recording.

It's always been that way.. All your posts will show the same value, even your very first one.
Post again and they all will show as 7,548

It picks up all the info in the box from your profile including current post count shown there. If you change anything, location, services etc., it changes to the same on every post - virtually all forums work that way.
