Help! I haven't seen my paper provisional licence for years after having a clear-out and I have NO idea where it has gone. I know I'll need it when I want to go about booking lessons and a test. I have my photocard kept safe and keep it with me when I go out practising with dad. I have been onto the DVLA site to see what to do about replacing, but it's a little unclear; I can see only "applying for 1st licence" and "replacing a lost or stolen licence", but this latter is about only replacing a photocard. Is it the same process as replacing a paper licence?

Any advice gratefully received.

If the website is unclear I would just call and ask wht you need to do. They are bound to be able to replace it, people must lose them all the time so there is bound to be a "standard procedure"

The licence is the photocard + the paper counterpart.

If either is lost you need to follow the instructions for a "lost licence".

At least that is what the interactive tool on the following page leads one to believe:

yeah - if you lose one part, you need to apply for replacements for the whole license.

I know this because I lost my photocard when I lost my wallet, and they ended up sending me a whole new license incl. paper counterpart.

I often wondered what would happen if I got some points on my license - they sometimes just write it on your paper license in pen.
I could just throw away that version of my license and use the original one?

(obviously it would still be on the computer that I had points - but someone may still be able to use it to their advantage somehow? )

If you mean to produce to an employer, yes in theory you could and I have known it to happen (the person got sacked when it was found out).
But many employers now require employees to give consent for them to check with the DVLA for this reason.
