I don't think the methods of jail-breaking are allowed on these forums

Google is your friend though.

Is jailbreaking illegal?????? It will invalidate a warranty but how can it be illegal?

It's not illegal, but the common assumption seems to be that jailbreakers just want free apps, so it's frowned upon. The idea that someone might actually want to use the hardware that they bought how they want appears to be foreign to a lot of people.

Why frowned upon? If its their phone, no contract they can do as they want I would have thought and its against no laws.

It is frowned upon by Apple as there approach is to have a high level of control and keep their stuff locked down.

It is definitely not illegal currently, although Apple are trying to make it so on the basis most people do it with the intention of pirating apps.

I guess there is a slippery slope from talking about jail-breaking methods and talking about how to run pirated apps, so it is fairer not to allow discussion at all.
