Projector advice
My partner and I have totally different tastes in tv, so i sit in the spare room to watch tv, only thing is once the new desk goes into this room it will look a little cramped with the 32" flat screen.
does have any advice on any good HD projectors out there with an HDMI slot? |

Optoma HD200X, 2x hdmi 1080p. My mate has it on 120'' screen looks amazing. You will need good screen to get the most out of it and speakers. it really dose add up to be very expensive but if your going big it's really worth it.

When you can spend £7000 on a single chip 1080p DLP projector then the little Optoma for 1/10th the price doesn't seem like bad value. Also, what's the biggest readily available consumer TV you can buy without going daft? - 60"-65". That'll cost somewhere around £2000 - £5000 depending on the brand. That little Optoma will run on an 80"~100" screen. That's quite a bit bigger than a telly, isn't it. Add a ceiling bracket, some cables, a good budget AV amp & speakers and you'd still have change from £2000. Comparing costs like that the projector system looks positively cheap! I think the only credible alternative that would tempt me away from projection is the silly deal that RS has on the 56" Philips 21:9 TV screen. It's £999. Add a budget AV system for £300-£400 and you have a very cinematic home entertainment system for less than £1500 |

You say cramped. If it's a small room you might want to make sure how much distance you have to allow the projector to focus, you may need a short throw projector. Plus you'll want one with a quiet fan in a small room.

For most people your expenditure would be excessive for mere TV.
I'd prefer someone say "No, you need to spend more for an acceptable result" rather than encourage me to waste my hard earned money on something that I'd later regret. |

For a spare room I would stick with a TV rather than a projector, heat build-up can be an issue in a small room.
I mean for comfort issues not projector reliabilty. Projectors do put out an awful lot of hot air. |

And the lamps blow and need replaced.
Check out the price for a replacement lamp - at least £100 every 2000 hours. We use gear all the time that has consumable parts. It's not a new idea, nor is it one limited to projectors. If it's such an abhorrent idea to you then clearly you aren't a potential customer for a projector. But before you give yourself a black eye with such a kneejerk reaction you should put that time in to perspective. Most projector owners use a TV for casual viewing, so the projector might get used a couple of times a week for a special events. The lamp could last more than 5 years. I know people who have changed their TV before they've changed a lamp, so you want to talk about cost.... |

I have this projector (HD200) in my lounge and its the dogs bits. With a throw of 3m in my room I get a 79" screen. Its hooked up to my ps3 for Saturday night Blueray movies.Gaming is a whole new experience. Its ceiling mounted above my head, and with bright mode switched of it makes the same noise as a table fan.It does put out some heat but I fixed that by opening a window.
Go get one you won't be sorry.
