New HIFI

Im looking at getting a new HI-FI.

I'm looking at getting a powerful one 100+ Watts. but also a fairly small system (micro system).

I would require at least one RCA red/ white input and like the look of the Panasonic Range. I must avoid the SCPM29 though i still like the SCPM29.

Can anyone recomend a powerful system to be?

Price is £200 Max.

Cheers

I wouldn't concentrate too much on getting one based solely upon a power output of 100 watts.

Take a look at the Denon DM31, which can be had for about £185 without speakers from Richer Sounds (the nearest one to Swindon is Bristol?). You could get some Mission M71i speakers from them for £60 - I know this is a bit more than your £200 budget but you will have a cracking system.

The DM31 is (just about) the de facto mini/micro system for the money: CD, amp and tuner in one little box with full remote - and a spare input or two. I've got one myself and use it with some large Mission floorstanding speakers, and it knocks the socks off systems I've spent several times more on.

I can most certainly recommend the Teac Reference 100, very similar to the Denon, and around the same price, superb.

Agreed. The Denon DM30/31 and TEAC Reference 100 have always been in the same class. The TEAC Reference has now been discontinued, however, but you may find some stock somewhere!

As others have pointed out don't waste your money on something that 'looks pretty good' unless there's any evidence to back it up! The Denon and TEAC have always been highly regarded: do a search on the avforums and Hi-Fi Choice.

Has the Teac 100 been discontinued?

Never realised, However, the new Legacy range is out so i presume that has replaced it.
