New Sonys
Local Sony centre tell me there will be a new TV range before the end of the month
Do we go for a discounted old model or wait for the new ones? I presume all manufacturers renew around this time of year? |

Different manufacturers release new models at different times, but Sony are usually end of March/beginning of April.
We had a big load of new KDL32CX250's delivered yesterday, I don't know if we've got them on display yet - I managed to avoid carrying them ![]() Apparently they only have one SCART, but that was pretty well expected. |

search for KDL32CX250 - no results? Not too much to go on but some sites list features such LED Edge backlighting and interestingly USB recording - possibly likes Panny's effort on last years '20 series models. |

Do the Panny G and D series TVs have that horrible Guide Plus EPG that you can't change?

search for KDL32CX250 - no results? I only read the labels on the boxes, then ran off before I got collared to help shift them ![]() I'll see tomorrow if they have any out on display yet, but they may have been stock ready for a forthcoming launch?. I've just checked at Sony.uk and they still list only the old models, EX series etc. |

I've been and checked in the shop, they aren't out on display yet.
EDIT: Just checked Sony Assist, I made a mistake on the number, it's 520 not 250, and the manual covers models: KDL32CX520/521/523/525 KDL46CX520/525 Under that number you can find it: http://www.sony.co.uk/product/t32-cx...s/kdl32cx520bu |

I had a look on the back of one (they are out on display now), no phono audio out (but a 3.5mm stereo jack for headphones or audio out), only a singls SCART, and a USB socket labeled to connect an external HDD to.

I am not familiar with Sony model specs so I thought it was something that needed clarifying. The lack of phono out is a big fail for those of us who like to listen to music programmes on our hi-fi rather than through our AV system.

That still would not work for me as I like to have my wireless headphones base station permanently connected to the headphone jack. But I guess if I were to ever replace my aging Denon AV amp for a more modern one that would give me the connectivity I need as I presume the TV's (1.4?) HDMI connection feeds back the TV audio to the amp? At present I use my TV to act as a switch for my various analogue audio recorders with only my two digital audio sources connected direct to the amp.

I guess a more interesting question would be how many of this year's crop are designed and built by Sony and how many are being "outsourced" to Beko et al.

Certainly the 32CX520 and the 46EX720 (I think that's the number) look to be Sony sets. Incidently the 46EX720 is a 'super slim' LED set, but has the stupid 'feature' that the bottom part of the set sticks out at the back so you can mount it close to the wall (as the earlier LED sets did - the later ones had flat backs). But even worse, the aerial socket and SCART socket stick directly out from the back (not recessed at all) - so you've got to space it well off the wall, rather negating any advantage of it been thin. Makes you wonder what idiots design these things?

Presumably very little, just as before.

I'd expect more, not less, outsourcing as Sony tries to make its TV division profitable again. I thought they were selling off some of their manufacturing capacity?
