Should I splash out for iPad?

I've wanted an iPad for a while but I think after about a week I'll probably never touch it again!

I noticed that in the run up to the iPad 2 release it's going for £329.00 (the cheapest model) which is making me reconsider.

So to summarise, should I go for it? Pros and cons please...?

Also is it really worth waiting and paying the extra £100 for iPad 2? Again pros and cons please.

Thanks!

I'm in a similar dilemma - I'm definitely planning to get one or the other, but some of the clearance pricing has me very tempted. I'm very sure I will be using mine a lot, just for web browsing and watching videos on long train journeys!

Original iPad refurb is £289 on Apple Store (new has a new shell/battery, so good as new really), there's potentially 4% Quidco cashback on that (it may exclude refurbs so not banking on it). Or a non-refurb for £329 with 8% cashback from Best Buy.

I've no interest in the cameras, but the extra speed would be nice. £150 nice though, I'm not sure.

iPad 1 16Gb Wifi refurb ordered today £289.

BARGAIN. vs Ipad 2 + £150 for camera's not wanted, faster CPU (the 1 is NO slouch to begin with). Wouldn't mind the 33% less weight but I'll cope for that price. At that price point it's down there with the glut of cheapo Android tablets. Well pleased

99 quid in orange shop plus a monthly contract for £25 quid for two years for wifi which doesn't work in my town according to the site when I put my post code in so why sell it?

As not one member of the forum owns an iPad 2 your guess is as good as any, so get off the fence, make a decision and buy the one you want.

I won an iPad as part of a performance incentive at work last week and I love it!!! I was thinking of buying a net book for general web browsing and emailing (I already have a laptop but wanted something more compact) and the iPad more than meets my needs. It's very easy to use, and is a very powerful device. It wasn't something I was looking for, but having tried it, I love it.

I have the wifi only version but it suits me just fine as my phone has a wifi tethering function anyway so just use that when out and about.

I don't know why anyone would pay the premium for the 3G version when you can get a Mifi dongle from comet on pay as you go for around £40

Indeed.. or a mobile that can act as a HotSpot.

Personally I've never seen the iPad as something to roam around with outdoors, bit on the bulky side. And if I want to use it in a coffee shop or pub or hotel they'll be WiFi on offer anyway....

Yes it's not the type of device I would carry everywhere with me for fear of it being stolen although It does have it's uses at work or when I go to the caravan for the weekend or something. As you say, more and more mobiles are getting hotspot capabilities now which pretty much makes the 3G version redundant anyway.

Buy it. Buy it. You know you want it. Steve Jobs has told you so

Then in a few months time yours and everyone elses will have brought down the price of them on eBay. Except that I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole with that 1024x768 screen. Dual-core CPU, expected but mneh, 9x faster graphics, nice but even more mneh with only the same screen to throw them at. If it had a 1600x1200 resolution screen it really might have made a difference, but as it is, the iPad 2 is essentially the iPad 1.1

Had hung on for a while before I got an iPad as the prices were too high.
Got the iPad 16gig Wifi+3G on Orange for £99 and £20 a month for 24 months.
Looking at the iPad 2, yeah its thin and light, but the camera I wouldnt use as I have an iPhone 4, plus Facetime wouldnt get used. Joined 3 at the start when their gimmick was Video calling, with 20mins a month free......used it twice.
Does what I need it to, which is basically a quick email and web browser client. Plays videos well and has all the apps I`m used to.
