Regular failure to record ITV
Chris Hart
03-03-2011
Hi all.

I'm having a problem at the moment where my Foxsat HDR is regularly refusing to record ITV programmes where they appear early in the evening schedule.

The box has failed to record Emmerdale every day this week on ITV HD. I know the box has woken ready to record because when I press standby, the last viewed channel appears immediately rather than having to wait to boot. It's as though the box has been waiting for the signal to start the recording and never received it. This has also happened for Dancing on Ice.

I've experience occasional missed recordings like this in the past but now it's every day. I've rebooted the box. I've also tried removing the schedule entry and added it again.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Which ITV1-HD are you using ?. No problems with mine using ITV1-HD Granada.

Maybe the Foxsat HDR has a good taste chip and therefore refuses to record Emmerdale

Why did I know someone would say that! :

I thought there was only one ITV channel? Is it not always London? Anyway, I'm in the midlands. It's also just failed to record the 8 o'clock showing despite the box being on.

If the problem continues you could always record it manually, or stick to ITV1.

There is currently two, London at 1440 x 1080 and Granada at 1920 x 1080. I live in the West Midlands but use a Manchester postcode for two reasons,

It gives you a 1920 x 1080 picture.

You can record both BBC-HD channels and still watch (and timeshift) ITV1-HD. You can then use customise channels to restore BBC1 West Midlands to 101.

Try postcode M2 4JA.

ITV have a nasty habit of changing the event ID's so accurate recording and series recordings fail to work, you can tell if this is the problem a failed recording will appear outside the series folder after the programme should have finished and the the schedule will update to the next episode.

Hate to say this but the reason may well be that ITV1-HD Granada is on a Sky transponder

I experience something similar when trying to record from ITV1+1 on Fridays at 21:00 (Childrens Hospital). It has failed for the last two weeks/episodes.

Thanks for the advice. I used the post code you suggested and did a rescan of channels last night. Once complete I then added all of my series links back in.

Once again though, Emmerdale has failed to record.

I've sent an email off to ITV but am not holding my breath that it will reach anyone that can do anything about this.

Next week I'll try recording on 103 instead and if that fails well I'll have to set a manual recording.

I get the point of PDC but when it can easily be rendered useless by broadcasters getting something wrong at their end, shouldn't there be a safeguard built into the devices using it? I've no idea if this is technically feasible but why can't the Humax start recording the buffer from shortly before the programme is due to record then when it receives the PDC signal, it discards everything it has already recorded and records from the moment the PDC signal is received. At least programmes would still record then regardless of any PDC issues.

No problems here at all, Emmerdale, first Corrie recorded fine, second Corrie recording now viewing in chasing playback all from ITV1-HD Granada. Time to suspect a problem with the box. What signal strength and quality do you get from menu/system/diagnostics for both tuners ?

What firmware version is your hdr using ?
