I had the same problem with Orange.
Changed to TalkTalk on their LLU exchange in Lincoln.
I now never get less than 18Meg connection (usually around 20Meg.)
What a difference!

Family & friends have all been impressed by the quality of iPlayer on the tv too. Guess it's down to the fact that everyone's end experience is the product of a large number of technical variables.”

Humax Foxsat HDR. SCART RGB. 28" Panasonic 16x9 SD 50Hz CRT. Plusnet. Slowest connection seen: 3.7Mbps. Fastest connection seen: 8.9Mbps.

At a guess, the "standard" version looks something like 320x240 with a low-ish bitrate, upscaled in quite a soft way by the box. (not much blockiness - just blurred).

The "HQ" version looks something like SD with a low-ish bitrate.

I have had an HDTV connected. The same applies - though of course real broadcast HD then looks far far sharper than any of the above.

Cheers,
David.

Hi David - concluded that me & the family must be pretty cheap to keep - but grateful that our 50p eyesight is hiding the 'awful, cloudy, blurry' picture quality from us. Just think of the excitement we have to come when we convert from gas . . .

I've just bought LG32490, and also have the Humax FoxsatHDR.

i-player from the Humax provided a clear picture on "high", clear enough to be indistinguishable from an ordinary SD picture, but it was slow to navigate.
i-player from the LG TV is, IMO, a slightly inferior picture, but has a faster response time.

Both are connected to a TG (Thomson) router by cable, and I am getting 3 to 3.5Mb speed.

Mine does! LG50PK590
(note this is not a Freesat TV - it is an app in the Networking menu)

It plays iPlayer HD too.

Mine too - 32LG490. It's a Freesat HD effort which connects to the router allowing access to iplayer, youtube, google maps and other stuff (but not emails - yet??) which is rendering my Humax Foxsat rather less useful - apart from the recording and all the other stuff you can't get on freeview.

No, several connected TVs give access to HD via their iPlayer "app".

Cheers,
David.

Yup - it's definitely the 720p stream.

You get options of Standard or HQ for SD programmes
and a link to the HD version when available.
