iOS TV Out Thread

One of my favourite uses of my iPhone is watching TV shows, streaming media such as TVU player, etc.

One of the frustrating limits is the apps you can TV out. With the new iPad having mirroring, I thought it would be good to set up a thread to discuss apps that do TV out, jailbreak solutions and when released the new mirror technology, as well as accessories and Apple TV.

I think there will be a lot of opting out of the new mirror tech by apps such as Sky Mobile TV who won't want people to simply play their programmes via the iPad, so if they can opt out you can guarantee they will (back up those existing apps now!)

This isn't meant to be a thread for 'My device can already do x,y and z' posts. There's plenty of other threads to vent if you hate Apple and their products.

Only tried it once about 6 months ago with TVOUT on my jailbroken iPhone 3g but was NOT impressed tbh.Dunno if there's anything else out there now, will be interesting to hear from others.

when you say its been limiting, do you mean the way the airplay thing only works with Youtube and apps bought from the store?

as far as i could tell, when iOS 4.3 comes out next week, that should work with any online video. (or at least may be restricted by file type, rather than whether or not its an approved app).

Limiting means an app had to opt in to video out, which most don't for obvious reasons (Sky Mobile TV) whereas this new feature will out anything by default.

If I'm Sky I wouldn't be too happy at the thought of someone plugging in an iPad 2 down the pub and streaming games just by using an HDMI cable or bypassing their full subscriptions by just paying 8 quid a month and streaming via iPad 2 at home, when it's 20 quid plus via Sky+

I know it can be done via jailbreak, but how many non-tech people actually do this?

Expect a slew of app updates around March 11th and 25th blocking this feature.
