G.I. Joe sequel announced

Release date = August 12, 2012.

Rumours saying that only 3 actors - Snake Eyes, Duke and Storm Shadow - will return from the first film. Doesn't inspire confidence, and the fact that the new director has only done the Justin Bieber film/documentary (whatever the hell it is) doesn't really help.

I heard Dennis Quad signed for 3 movies, so maybe he'll appear. Sienna Miller has come out recently as saying she regrets being in the first one! So I'm guessing she won't be there!

I'm all for a sequel - here's what I thought of the first one:

I enjoyed it. Rachel Nichols has 'tweeted' that her character won't be in it, so at least that means we won't be seeing a whole load of recasts.

Still sucks though.

Not surprised Joseph Gordon Levitt doesn't want anything to do with it

I liked Sienna Miller in the first one, but I could tell she didn't like it. Her heart clearly wasn't in it.

Not sure what to say about the sequel cast changes... Duke, Snake Eyes, and Storm Shadow? So not even gimmick Waylans is returning. I'm sad that Scarlett isn't returning, I'm sure they'll make an excuse for where they are.

Honestly, this sequel is going to be awful. The director for a Justin Bieber film at the helm? That doesn't sound promising...

Latest casting additions:

Stephen Martines - Cross-Country
Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson - Roadblock
Ray Stevenson - Firefly
Elodie Yung - Jinx
DJ Cotrona - Flint
RZA - The Blind Master
Adrianne Palicki - Lady Jaye

I like Dwayne Johnson and Ray Stevenson, but I can't help feeling hat this film will fail without more returning characters from the first film. I guess Cobra Commander will be recast.

Bruce Willis in talks to join the cast of Paramount’s G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation, with the veteran action actor marked to play the original Joe.

Willis, if a deal comes together, would play General Joe Colton, the man who in 1980s comic books starts the G.I. Joe strike team, called the ultimate freedom fighting force, and got the handle G.I. Joe.

I loved the first one - it was like someone gave the director loads of money and said "see how many explosions you can get into 2 hours of film"

Looking forward to the sequel.

I watched the first film with n epoectations and enjoyed it a lot. I'm looking forward to the sequel and im not concerned with the recasts, or the missing cast members. I'm looking forward to the development of Snake Eyes and the other one.

Walton Goggins is to star in G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation.

The Cowboys & Aliens actor will appear alongside Channing Tatum, Adrianne Palicki, RZA and Dwayne Johnson in the sequel, Variety reports.

Goggins's character Nigel James has been created especially for the films in the franchise.

The cast is impressive, even if the director isn't.

First trailer will be released on Tuesday. Cobra Commander will be back, but there's no word on who will be playing him.

I also quite enjoyed it, had the humour that most of these type of films lack.

I HATE the first film. Mainly because as a child in the 80's I was a big fan of this toy line. It was called Action Force in the UK, and the UK version of the toys actually had a load of UK characters that now seem to have been dumped and written out of the series.

However perhaps the biggest reason it stays with me is because it also had a Marvel comic that fleshed out the characters and it was surprisingly well written. It was actually quite realistic, and put the characters very much in the real world with the Russians also a threat. It would have made a much better basis for the movie.

The film appears to be mainly based on the crap American cartoon series, with sci-fi weapons, fantasy plotlines and paper thin characterisation.

So if you don't mind me using the overused phrase they've raped my childhood.

And I will never get over how they had the Eifel Tower getting destroyed and it would appear nobody realised it looked like a really bad version of the same scene in comedy Team America. Sums up how idiotically bad it is really.

Christ almighty. Could the sequel be any worse? The first one really was a pile of tripe.

Visibly embarrassed actors? Check
Playstation CGI? Check
Hilarious, brain dead, state the obvious dialogue ("They're firing missiles at us!" - cut to missiles being fired)? Check

Recut, it may have made a passable timewaster for easily pleased eight year old boys, but even they deserved better than this.

No wonder so many of the original cast have bailed out. Anyone actually wanting a sequel - which is surely only to push merchandise as the first was hardly the biggest hit in the world - must either be stark raving mad or have a high tolerance for utter rubbish.

I'll admit that some of Stephen Sommers' earlier films do have a certain hokey charm to them (Deep Rising, The Mummy), but this dreck is way, way beneath them. Surely he could've done better than this?

It was a movie based off a toy range. What were you expecting? A serious, Oscar worthy movie with many standout acting performances and a plot that examined the human condition?

Besides, the Rock is in the sequel, woo!

Amazing that they are making a sequel, the first one was shockingly bad, i went to see it with my girlfriend, we knew going in it would be Onscreen action wall to wall, with no real plot, but gawd it was the worse movie either of us had EVER seen, it was sooooo boring and tedious.

I can only assume there is a lot of money tied up in this brand, so they are trying again to make a success of it for the franchises longevity.

there can be no other reason to make a followup to that.

And finally they got Snake Eyes and Cobra Commander looking right.
