Sony 50hz or 100hz ? + questions!

Hi

Same old story, upgrading my mums TV!

We've narrowed it down to what she considers the 'prettiest' and thats the Sony KDL-32EX603 in Currys!

Currys/PCworld are the only people selling this model - others are the 'KDL-32EX713' £100 more.

The only difference is one's 50hz the other is 100hz should I be worried about this?

Looking into it tonight I realise that 'Edge lit' led doesn't seem to be a favourite! or for this price is it the best you can get?

I always got the opinion that LED was better than LCD, ie newer technology - but is it? or is it just thinner?

I was thinking future proof.

It will probably be a special model number for Currys, so you can't compare prices.

It really makes little difference, there's no flickering anyway - they don't work that way. But you really need to compare pictures and see which YOU prefer.

Just thinner really - but some people prefer the LED pictures, some prefer the CCFL ones.

Looking into it more - the EX713 is the newer version (although sept 2010) and as well as sony 100hz motionflow it has a 'presence sensor' so if you leave the room it turns the picture off. Not sure if this could be problematic!

Found this model currently on Amazon for £499 but it says Delivery 1 - 3 months! whats that about?

It's another pointless 'feature', if you buy the set turn it off immediately.

How is it pointless? It saves energy.

If you leave the room, turn the TV off - it's not complicated

Hoping the TV might detect you have left the room and do it for you is only going to waste energy, as presumably it only decides you've left if enough time has passed without any detection.

It's the sort of feature which is only going to confuse people, and I'm dubious about how accurate it can be?.

Another useless confusing feaure is 'Auto switch-off', fair enough as an option, but it's the default! - it causes many customer complaints about the TV keeps switching off.

just had a quick look into this and it uses body heat and motion sensor.

There is also an 'Intelegent presence sensor' and it apparently ues face recognition. I'm not saying its a good idea but a feature that enables you to optimise the sound to the position in the room that you are sittings sounds appealing. It also says if you turn away from watching to read a book for example it will dim the screen!.. not sure about that!

Also - it recognises if your a child or adult - so if a child is too close the screen goes black with a warning! no comment!

Sounds like just a step away from an 'Xbox Connect' style of controlling the set?

Well we have this feature and it is very good. I may go into the kitchen but have the news on so still want to listen to it. It has worked very well we have found.
