Contacting Openreach
Has anyone ever contacted Openreach with an enquiry? Were they a waste of time with you as well?
Trying to get confirmation of whether BT is available on a new housing development I am intending to move too, wish I hadn't bothered now. I know peope who live there and they get told they can't get BT even though the online postcode checker says its possible and I have seen some BT drains over there so I thought I would email Openreach and get a solid yes or no as they would have put the lines in.......................or so I thought. Got a reply about a week later telling me to contact BT and they will decide if they want to put a line in...........yeah that helps!!!! |

Openreach will not deal with Joe Public. You need to go through a service provider who can action a provision for a line and see if the order gets accepted.

Openreach don't decide where to put a line in anyway. That is up to the telecoms service provider you decide to rent the line from. They get Openreach to quote for the work needed and the service provider decides if it is worth it or not.
So basically Openreach were quite correct telling you to ask BT as whether BT want to put a line into your home or not is nothing to do with Openreach. |

Thanks for your info guys. But the point I was trying to make is that I wanted to find out if the BT drains were the start of BT working their way onto this estate.
Openreach did reply but just told me if what I already knew. All I wanted from them was either "yes the drains were put in xx weeks ago and if you contact BT they will arrange the installation" or "No we have no idea why them drains are there sorry" I would assume openreach put the lines in on this estate and know whats, what. |

Part of the reason that Openreach when contacted are not very forthcoming is because they bend over backwards not to be seen to be favouring one service provider over another nor giving out commercially sensitive information.
As has been said before, you need to call a service provider, like BT, and ask them. |

Openreach may appear to bend overbackward so as not to be seen to favour one service provider over another, but in reality they are in bed with BT Retail. Some of their engineers even recomend BT Retail....

If you have evidence supporting your claim, pass it to Ofcom who will gladly look into considering it's against Openreach's founding rules to be favouring one CP over another.
I'm well aware that BTOR are supposed to be independent, just as I'm well aware that Ofcom are a toothless, self promoting quango. The odds of Ofcom initiating an investigation into BTOR's independence on the basis of a letter from a consumer are about as long as the odds of BTOR giving a fig about an ISP's customer. |

I got phone and broadband with a big operator. When I complained about the length of time it was taking (seven weeks) and the urgency with which I needed it (special circumstances), I was apologised to profusely and told that openreach prioritises BT customers.

If it was found the Openreach had prioritised BT Retail customers over other CPs then BT Group would rightfully face huge fines. |
