Where is my confusion?
Professor Cox is a particle physicist and he was talking particle physics (in the beginning there was particle physics, in the end there will be particle physics and everything in between is surely particle physics!)
Yep, everything is connected to eveything else, so the "horribly handsome" Prof Cox - I bet he gets interesting fan mail from women - can talk about whatever he wants .......

It's not the finite life of "this" universe that gets to me or anything else to do with the longevity, it's the simple fact that the universe has created its own observers that freaks me out . How cocky is that?

Maybe the announcer got her lines mixed up between the Brian Cox programme and some programme like Panorama or a current events documentary .

That's the only explanation I can think of.
