3 are clearly going for the Jugular here. By topping up £15 per month, on pay as you go, you can now get:

300 any network minutes
3,000 texts
Truly UNLIMITED data

http://www.three.co.uk/Pay_As_You_Go/Add_ons

Bizarrely, this deal now actually beats their £15 per month 30 day sim-only package.

It is also strange that they are still charging £15.99 per month for a measly (in comparison) 5GB of data with their MyFi Dongle Package (although this is probably subbing the cost of the dongle as well).

I would so switch to this if giffgaff weren't better.

Anyone know if you can put a normal PAYG SIM card in a MiFi dongle? If so, I can't think of any reason not to cancel my 30-day contract and just do this instead...

Giffgaff isn't necessarily better. I think for me the 3 data network might be much faster than O2's one. That would be worth it for me.

The only advantage I see giffgaff having is maybe text-heavy people sending more than 3000 texts per month and maybe for people who earn a lot of points on giffgaff.

That said, one chappie got threatened to be kicked off of Giffgaff recently for very heavy usage. A guy did on test on Three and downloaded 46GB in one month and didn't hear a peep from Three.

I can't see any reason why this wouldn't work. What I don't know is if it breaks some kind of T&C about how you should use the sim. Three theoretically identify a sim used for this purpose as it would never make/receive calls or texts.

The terms and conditions do say no use in a dongle, laptop or tethering.

Well that's disappointing. Understandable, but disappointing. Still, seems crazy that for less money I could get unlimited data on, say, an iPad, than I do on my desktop, which is capped at 5GB.

Why do 3 then allow you to tether on the iPhone, when they could easily block it? Or is that not true with PAYG on 3?

You'll have to ask Three that.

I suspect its because those tariffs have a specific allowance, rather than all you can eat.

Nope, iPhone tariff is definitely truly unlimited. I think they basically like to confuse customers by offering things that sound the same, but aren't, and the only way you'll know is by reading the fine-print.

It's not just iPhone, tethering (or rather personal hotspot) is allowed on the Android phones too.

My3 is till only showing 500MB for £15. Then again their site seems a little temperamental

You may have to give them a call and ask for the new tariff. I am not certain whether they will automatically upgrade you to it.

This is probably going to sound like a silly question.

You add £15 calling credit to your phone, you get for the month:

300 minutes for 1 month
3000 texts for 1 month
Unlimited data for 1 month

+ do you get £15 credit added to your account in addition?

I ask only because they use the word top up on their website as opposed to pay.

Orange also use the word top up. When you add £10 calling credit, they give you 100MB, 300 texts, calls costing 20p an hour to 5 magic numbers for 1 month + £10 credit.

I am thinking of finally making the switch to 3 for this unlimited data on PAYG. Sounds very appealing!

No sign of this on their website, other than the promotional mention I mean.

Add-Ons are still the usual price/allowance.

£15 for true unlimited on PAYG seems a bit too generous, I could understand it more if it was £25/month.

It's on their blog too, with a few more details; http://blog.three.co.uk/2011/03/07/a...pay-as-you-go/

I can't see it lasting/staying at £15, so people who switch from other networks should bear in mind that this is more than likely a "get people to change network" type of promotion.

I was going to go with 3 for mobile broadband because they have the best limit for the cheapest price. I doubt they'd launch an unlimited mobile broadband package, though. The network would be hammered with it.

http://www.three.co.uk/Pay_As_You_Go/Add_ons

It is listed on their website there.

People shouldn't forget 3 are probably easily capable of this on their network. They have a lot less customers than any of the other networks, on a 100% 3G network.

if 3 can keep this going and not change it they will really hit the other lazy networks that don't want to offer people good data deals like 3/giffgaff.you have phones now that use data all day can watch tv on it and much more.
