When I press the Media button on the remote to play back recorded programs in the top right of the screen there is a rotating star and the word "Deleting". Press Media button again the listing cancels but the message deleting is still there for about 5 seconds.
Auto Delete is switched OFF
Although nothing is being deleted this now happens all the time.
I can still delete programs and play them.
All MENU functions to try to access the hard drive and format it are greyed out as unavailable.
I have switched off, disconnected everything.
Is this a faulty box or a software issue ?

I would get in touch with Humax to check. The deleting message should only appear when you select to delete something.

I have found that apart from the permanent message "Deleting" when I view what has recorded.
I am still able to delete from the list but when I power off and back on again they all reappear in the list.
Obviously the disk is getting full now.
Any Menu Options to try to format the disk or factory reset are greyed out as not available.

I would get in touch with Humax. There seems to few issues with the 1TB model, it might be the OS can't cope with the higher sector numbers, Windows PCs have had this issue before!

When you press the button to delete a programme you have watched the message "processing" comes up after a slight delay it disappears and the empty space on the hard drive increases.
When I was pressing delete I had a rotating star and the word deleting next to it. The listing would disappear but the hard drive space stayed the same no matter how many I deleted.
When I next restarted all the programs would be back in the list.
On the advice from another Forum I managed to find a USB stick that it would boot up from a Kingston 2Gb Fat32.
I have a number of USB sticks that it wont boot up from.
I reinstalled the 1.02.07 update succesfully but the problem remained.
Someone suggested that the new feature Background Delete or Auto Delete was causing it and try reinstalling the previous update 1.01.09 which did not have this.
After doing this the problem disappeared and I was able to format the hard drive.
I am not sure what Background Delete is supposed to do but my problem started after deleting a failed recording. It would delete but reappear immediately.
Now everything is working I dont want a OTA update to put me back on 1.02.07 but there seems no way of disabling Auto Update.
I hope this helps anyone with the same problem as it has taken a week to resolve.

Just to update people on my experience....

I have had exactly the same issue as telboy, the box was permenently displaying Deleting, then deleted items reappeared in list. I also found, in my case, that I couldn't record.

FIX: I installed the 1.01.09 version - the one prior to the background Deleting functionality - and without the TV portal.

This fixed the issue of Deleting and allowed full and proper control of existing and new recordings.

Then, I re-installed the 1.02.07 - which successfully returned the box to the latest version (with TV portal) AND I now have a fully functional box. All previous recordings were left untouched as no re-format was needed.

Hope this helps someone else.

After almost 6 months and a change of unit by Humax Direct it has just happened again. August 2011
Again programs did not record and the message "deleting" never goes off when listing the programs recorded.
This time I just switched off at the back waited and switched on again and was able to format the hard drive and do a factory reset.
It seems OK again but lost all my saved programs of course.

I have just realised that yet again I had just tried to delete a "failed recording" of 0 minutes duration.
The only way to do this was using the OPT+ button.
It was after that the "deleting" message kept reappearing and it failed to record from the EPG.
In future I will just leave the failed recording if this is likely to be the cause.

If you have enabled the FTP option on your Hummy, you might be able to delete the unwanted file using FTP from your PC.

I found that switching off, leaving 5 mins/overnight didn't make a scrap of difference - the dreaded "Deleting" still appeared! Then the problem is because it thinks it is deleting something, numerous menu options are greyed out. I couldn't even copy/backup files to an external hard drive as it wouldn't show me the device until it had stopped deleting!

I have certainly {touching something wooden} not had any probs since I down-graded then upgraded the OS, each operation only took a couple of minutes max, and I had the bonus of not losing any recordings or future recordings set in the schedule.

BTW My prob was NOT caused by trying to delete a recording of zero length, my "faulty" recording simply had a "blank" segment about a third of the way in.

As a matter of interest, do you have any idea why the recording failed?

I believe it may be when one program is being recorded, then another program set by a "series link" (last week, say) clashes with another recording set more recently.

haven't had the opportunity to test the theory yet but it does seem to fail when a lot of things have been set. if you are currently watching something then a message pops up asking for you to select which two you want to record (this often happens as one is nearing the end and another wants to start - causing an overlap) but if you aren't currently watching anything then somethings got to fail

I'm experiencing the permanent "* Deleting..." message on my box after I tried deleting a series folder. This is preventing anything new from being recorded (even though the circle on the front turns red for the duration of the scheduled recording) and I can't even pause live TV.

I've downloaded the 1.01.09 firmware and tried to downgrade it but nothing's happening when I restart with the USB stick plugged in. I'm wondering if this is because it recognises it as an earlier version (It's currently on 1.02.20) and doesn't bother trying to install it. Did you have to do anything special to downgrade yours?

No, nothing special needed. Although the memory stick you use MUST be formatted as FAT32 (otherwise it wont be recognised) with the 1.01.9 software in the root. Maybe best to just have only the humax software on there and nothing else. Then, you must turn off the unit at the REAR power switch, insert the stick, power back on and the box will boot up and auto-copy the software.

It took a max of a couple of minutes. I then recorded a couple of things just to make sure it was working ok, then repeated the whole process using version 1.02.20

Thanks TJ, I tried it with a different USB stick and worked straight away. I think maybe it didn't like the first one I used because it was too big - I vaguely remember something about FAT32 formatted drives having a maximum size and this one was 2GB.

I managed to downgrade it to 1.01.09 and the "Deleting..." message disappeared but I still couldn't delete or record anything. In the end I just had to format the drive and it seems OK now :/

The limit for the size of the file system is 2TB for FAT32; I think you may be thinking of the individual file size limit which is 4GB for FAT32. I don't understand why the HDR is fussy about USB sticks but I have seen the problem myself.

This reply is not to Necro the thread, but my problem relates to this exactly.

Yesterday I got my first "prmanently * deleting",
which I solved my using Putty to Telnet,
Maintenance Mode,
( rm /mnt/hd1/filebglastop.dat
did not find the file)
ls -al to find the directories,
cd mnt
cd hd1
rm filebglastop.dat
reboot

which got rid of the problem, great.

This morning I went to delete some edited files from "magic folders" [cut] [original
and two files from before hte problem were still in there.
Deleting both files failed to delted them and the permanant * deleting reappeared!
Aarg.
Telnetted and fixed again but even Filezilla FTP cannot delete one offending file in there.
Do I leave it and never attempt to delete it?
I can't even rename the directory ...

Why did you do it that way? As you clearly have the custom firmware installed the usual way of fixing the problem would be to run fix-disk which has a specific question about the delete loop problem and would probably correct the file system issues that you seem to be suffering from.

FixDisk froze doing some cloning of... something or other,
and never got around to asking me about the permanent deleting bit,
where's that option in terms of running fix disk?
Is it at the start, because I never got asked,
or is it at the end ... which I never got to.

Anyway, I will run fix-disk when I don't need the machine for half a day,
but will the rogue permanent-delete-causing file then be "clean" enough to delete?

OK; writing down the exact error message would help to debug the problem in future.
Note that fix-disk can take quite a while to run with some long pauses.

I think it is near the end.

Sounds like a plan to me. Hopefully when the file system is clean it will be possible to delete the file.
