I just ordered one a few days ago what can I expect? I already have the Iphone 4 so is there anything new I can do or is it all the same as it's iOS? What apps can I get for it?

Didn't want to wait a few weeks for no.2, then?

Too expensive for me at the moment for what I see as a gadget. Might upgrade later.

Got the old model cheaper and I will be holding off for Iphone 5 (already got the Iphone 4) which is another £500.

Yup, definitely IMO.

Ah, fair enough. I'm skipping the iPhone this year. Can't get that *and* an iPad 2. I'll still have 6 months on my contract when no.5 comes out, so I'll probably just wait for no.6.

No-one knows how much the "iPhone 5" will cost, when it will come out, what features it will have, or even if it'll be called iPhone 5. It could be iPhone 4x or something.

It's all rumour and conjecture until Steve (or his stand-in) announce it, which is likely to be at the Worldwide Developer Conference in June.

I just grabbed a refurb Ipad from apple for £289 - any more expensive and I wouldn't have bought one either. There would be no advantage to me getting an iPad 2. I never use webcams, I have a real camera for photos, and I don't play games.

Only had it since yesterday morning, but so far I can do the usual Email/Calendar/Internet/news.
Have also set it up to access files on my PC and view and remotely control the PC via splashtop. This means I can watch anything using flash (via PC). Also really useful as I don't have a phone line - I can use it as a VOIP phone too!

So did everyone throw away their Iphone 3G and 3GS as soon as newer models appeared?

I'm not interested in Movie editing (which is one app I've heard isn't compatible) I have a laptop for that - It's just too big and cumbersome for sofa surfing.

Oh and as I mentioned - If It had been the usual £439 I wouldn't have bought it!

Yeah some did, some have to have the latest toy from Apple ASAP. Just saying that in the case of iPad they seem to be willing to drop the support of iPad 1 pretty fast compared to other devices.

From what I understand iOS 4.3 is coming to iPad 1, and they are still selling them new in their store, so I don't think they have written them off just yet.

I like it, and for what is required from it, it's certainly going to do the job for a couple of years.

Rumour has it that 4.3 will be out at 6pm this evening.

Saw this on 9to5mac earlier, but nothing has been updated yet to confirm if it is for sure.

4.3 is for the first ipad also. It's the apps that may only be ipad 2 compatible going forward due to the differences in the hardware. However, I think those will be few and far between to start with as most of the apps don't yet make full use of the ipad so are hardly going to max that out and only run on ipad2.

I think this has been sparked by the Apple website page for iMovie saying it is only supported by iphone 4 and ipad 2, it would be interesting to see if this is the case or just a 'fully' functional on ipad 2 due to it having cameras. I think it may well work on ipad but you will obviously have to import your own movies from the iphone 4 (this is a guess, don't slam me if I'm wrong).

Yes the beta is working on iPad 1 no problem.

Surf the web on the best portable experience for it, enjoy the finest and biggest appstore in the world, read fantastic interactive content such as magazines, newspapers etc from around the world. Watch video, listen to audio/radio, be creative with world-beating content creation apps such as iMovie and Garage Band, enjoy the best portable gaming platford in the world.

The iPad offers more real-estate and more productivity than your iPhone. Surfing the web on an iPhone is do-able, but uncomfortable (too cramped), on an iPad it's a dream, you'll be blown away and wonder how you ever did without it!

A lot of apps have specific iPad versions with nicer UIs and extra features.

Yes my internet seems tiny on my Iphone now. The app store is very good I like the Ipad versions the guitar for example is better.

Display colour wise and text wise is sharper on the Iphone though due to a retina display.

For £250 you could have got a dual core advent vega tablet, with a 10.1" screen. Well worth the money.

but with a poorer screen, poorer build, no Android Market, no proper Google apps, and with Android stuck on 2.2 - no Honeycomb.

It is good for the cost, though.

It can be rooted, or have a custom ROM installed, to add various missing features, but it isn't the simplest of procedures.

The US Apple Store has stopped selling iPad 1 now, as iPad 2 is out on Friday.

I'd expect the UK store to do the same in a couple of weeks.

This one my other choice but they are bigger than the iPad, and I couldn't be bothered with the android faff for the £40 saving. I have an android phone which i have put a custom rom on, but as you say it's not simple. The iPad just works. (apart from flash )
