I can't believe how boring and below par it is thesedays. Its so bad. Yesterday on The Wright Stuff all the guests and the audience just took the piss out of what the show has become. So the feeling of discontent spreads far wider than DS forums.

Nothing new - so don't try to pretend that it is.

I remember the show getting mocked to kingdom come after Tanya buried max alive - I even had to sit through a DW DVD commentary where the producers and actors all took the piss.

EE always gets this kind of attitude. Why are people trying to make out it has only just started or is something new.

Very disengenuous not to say spiteful, and doesn't do the show any favors because it masks the real problems.

Besides, EE has been mocked on the Write Stuff before - why didn't you create a thread on those occasions?

Yes it is as they were talking about all the flop recasts EastEnders have recently done. It was nothing to do with anything else so don't make out it is unless you saw it.

Barb users get to rate episodes of a tv show after it has aired and EE is now only getting ratings of 5 and 6 when it had been 8 and 9 for the best part of three years believe it or not. These little things will be troubling the beeb. Kirkwood in my honest opinion will not be there come summer and I suspect many of the people he brought in, eg Kris Green will also be out.

My point was EE always gets criticism and has been criticized on the wright stuff numerous times before. Why weren't you creating threads then?

Must we have one of these threads everyday? Can you not just mention this on other threads. EE is still getting the ratings, its one of BBC's flagship shows, what person with any business sense would take this off air.. Such a stupid comment.

IF you don't like it turn off, the only way action will be taken is if ratings drop significantly.

I obviously don't see what all the complainers see, I am still enjoying it. Please don't speak for everyone OP, you seem to be a minority, because most people are still switching on to watch, and EE is still winning the awards!

EE ratings for 2011 so far are down on both 2010 and 2009 stats for this point and indications imply we might be set for similar patterns which we saw in 2006.

As for winning awards. It was well known that EE fans were multi voting.

I think it may be losing fans due to the route it is taking, I stopped watching it months ago, although I do catch the odd one and yes it is still as bad as when I decided to give it up, most people I know have given up on it too, it is really sad when a soap takes a downturn as drastic as it seems to be taking.

I hope one day that it will become watchable for me again, as it used to be my number one soap.

If the Beeb do not look after it, it may damage it for good and that would be a real shame.

Corrie and Emmer now tower above it in all aspects, both have been fantastic in the last few months and both keep me enthralled.

I am sure that none of use want it to go the same way as Eldorado or Crossroads.

I didn't defend it! I was just laughing (and snoring) at the endlessly repetitive attacks. And I rarely post on EE threads - I realised a long time ago it had gone way beyond rational debate.

But I've got to say, if you're genuinely a fan of Ricky Whittle, I'm not sure we would agree on much.

Funny I was just thinking the same about the people that create threads to slag it off!

Wow I really have hit a nerve with you if you're getting personal.

Yet its often different users. Until the same two or three who have to defend it to death. That's so immature not being able to take a different opinion.

I have not minded this weeks episodes but there is an awful lot wrong. I just don't feel anything for any of teh characters anymore even those I like such as Ian, Jane, Ronnie, Glenda, Dot. When you lose that you lose the heart and with that you don't care and switch off.

Thats exactly how I stopped watching it, I could not care less about any of the characters and so the decision was made easier for me.

Dot has become terribly OTT and in a bad way. Everything is so fake with her now whereas before she was one of the more real characters in the show.

I think EE would do well if they concentrated a bit more on some of the new chatavters that haven't really been utilized. I'd love to see a storyline involving Max, Vanessa, Tanya (provided they get rid off her current giggly teenage airhead personality) and Greg. But my wishes may come true with the upcoming Max/Abi accident plot.
I also wouldn't mind seeing a bit more of Pat and Janine, but not in her current petty thieving pimp state.
Yusef seems like a great addition so I genuinely hope they don't misuse him or underuse him.

Define what is so brilliant?

If its Brilliant now I would love to hear your opinions on the big years like 1986, 1997, 2001 and so on...

Should he continue upsetting some fans of the show by trying to figure out what makes the show tick or would it just be easier to try what worked for him at Hollyoaks?

I personally don't mind the current storylines, the cast are managing to make the best of what the writers tell them to say. I personally think the Square is lacking some decent eye candy to be honest and although I'd hate to see him turning the show into another Hollyoaks but looking at all the other soaps EE is seriously lacking in the babe department!!

He has tried to make it big using controversial, hard hitting storylines and it didn't go down well so what harm would it do if he went back to what worked for him before......

I agree and I can't see why KIrkwood rushed the Golds in if he didn't do anything with them except that awful Harry storyline. WHo cares if shes not Jodie's dad? No one cared because nothing was built up.

GReg - has to be the most pointless character ever created. Hes living on the square and never seen yet hes getting married next month No one will care when Tanya dumps the plank.

Santer's period was defined by his new characters plus a few returnees.

Kirkwood's has just been about Phil and the Moons so far.
