As long as you avoid the all in one home cinema systems which I guess you will since you already have the PS3 as your disc player then any modern AV amp plus speakers should have sufficient connectivity. Have a look at the Richer Sounds web site paying especial attention to the Onkyo and Denon ranges matched to say the Kef speakers (depending on budget). Basically the AV amp acts as a combined video/audio source switch with a single HDMI output connecting to the TV to pass the video.
One caveat, I am not sure if the V+ box is like the Sky boxes which also need a seperate optical audio connection to the amp as well as HDMI to get digital surround sound.
Yes, even a half decent AV amp/receiver will connect all these devices via HDMI, removing the need for complicated multiple connections of various types, in some cases one lead to the amp and another to the TV. Instead one size fits all.

No, the V+ box doesn't need an optical spdif connection - but you do need to set the V+ HD box to HDMI audio override.
Of course if the OP want a quick BBC News 24 update in the morning without bothering to fire up the AV amp then a secondary SCART connection direct from the V+ box to the TV may be useful using the TV's tinny sound.
The Onkyo HTX-22HDX (Review Here) will suit your needs....I have this and it's connected to my PS3 etc Lovely sound and very simple set up....You can have it as a 2.1 or 5.1 either configuration sounds excellent.
