Progressive Scan
mobily
10-03-2011
Hey all,

I currently have a dvd player which offers progressive scan via component output. Is it worth selecting this when watching a dvd or does the TV do the progressive scanning any better?

I understand what progressive scan is but am not sure if TVs do the job any better than a dvd player or what the best option is for the best picture?

Thanks

If you have the cables for component then give it a try and see which you think is best.

It should be better in theory, but as already suggested try both and see which you find best.

As suggested try it but it is very unlikely to be worse and if the TV doesn't correctly recognise naturally progressive material then using progressive could be much better. (The DVD player can read the progressive flag (when present) and so can do a simple weave de-interlace whereas the TV has to recognise the progressive nature from the image which is harder).

Note this is the case for films it does not apply to video.
