Keeping my number.

I'm already a T-Mobile customer on pay as you go but recently went to a pay monthly contract. My new phone arrived today but the sim that came with the new phone has a new number on it.

I want to swap that number with my current number so i can still use that on my pay monthly contract.

Is this an easy thing to do?

Probably best ringing customer services. Some networks make this a rather simple process, others will make a meal out of it (and even need you to port the number out and then back in). Unsure on which category t-mobile fall into

Unfortunately I think with T-Mobile you will need to port the number to a sim on a different network and then port it back..

This is what I think too - I believe the only way to keep your PAYG number, without porting out then back in, when upgrading from PAYG to pay monthly on T-Mobile is by doing so through T-Mobile itself.

Unfortunately you're right. I just spent the last half an hour on the phone arguing with them about this.

Think i'll keep the new sim.

I just switched from PAYG to monthly on Vodafone and kept the same number.Got the PAC code of Vodafone and entered the code when I ordered from the Carphone Warehouse. It still hadnt activated in 24 hours so a quick phone call sorted it no problems.

My Mum has just signed up for a SIM-only plan on Orange, because it works out cheaper per month than on PAYG. Now, she wants to keep her number. When the SIM comes, it'll come with a different number won't it? Can she just ring them and sort it over the phone?

A friend of mine has gone from pay monthly to pay and go. He called Orange for his PAC code and they just said they would send him a pay and go sim and transfer the number without a PAC code if he just calls when he gets the new sim card.

I decided to keep the new number rather than faffing about with all this PAC codes and different network business.

I don't see why they can't just alter a few things on a computer instead of all this extra work.

Indeed. It must lose them a lot of business for something that is surely very easy for them to do.

Faced with all that messing about just to keep a payg number I think a lot of people will just get a MAC and get a contract with another network, I know that's what I would do.

I'm with Virgin and when I went from payg to contract they did it all over the phone in seconds with no hassle.

Read post #1. It's T-Mobile with the issues, not O2.

I switched from vodafone pay as you go to vodafone contract. It took 7 days!

The whole thing was a mess, especially having to deal with payg customer services, but once it was all sorted, I haven't had any issues with the (contract) CS dept.
