I've had my HDR since July 2010 now, where as it could be said to 'work' ok I am still finding the general usage of the thing frustrating !

Want to delete a series of recordings quickly to clear some space ? Press delete....


On the HDR..

Press media, wait 60 seconds, navigate to series link folder, wait ten seconds.. select opt+ for 'list mode' wait 10 seconds.. find yellow button on controller.. press yellow button.. wait 10 seconds wandering if it's heard you... check items in list pressing 'i' each time to see what you are checking.. Find 'Blue' to delete , confirm pop up and wait up to a minute staring at a list of files while it deletes . Since the 'file manager' mode does not let you change folders you a have to go through the whole procedure again.


You get the picture !


Also the series links and some scheduled programs remain in the list of scheduled events permanently and have to be removed manually. Really poor design.

I did upgrade the disk to 1Tb is this why it's SOoooo slow ? I've also upgraded my Sky+ HD to 1TB and that seems fine

Also the format of the picture is not correct on my Panasonic plasma unless I select 16:9 , why does 'auto' not work ? any ideas please ? And the remote control has not become any easier to use, why is there a 'back' and and 'exit' which don't seem to do what they say ? And why are the important functions all on different corners ? I just can't use this remote control with out constantly looking for the buttons !

While I'm at it, I have another problem in that my Humax Satellite receiver ( a VACI 5300 ) uses the same remote codes.. I also want to download the latest firmware for it but Humax seem to have completely stripped their web site of support information, Come on Humax sort it out for god sake !

inodes and block sizes, probably. You (or Humax's default) probably formatted the drive as a general purpose filesystem suited for millions of small files, rather than one to contain hundreds of very large ones.

I'd have to take the drive out of the Humax and run tune2fs on it to see if Humax have made some silly decisions when formatting the filesystems.

When pressing "Media" the HDR seems to read all the .hmt files and to check for the present of the .hts and .ts files. When you have lots of files, that takes time. ext3 allows directory hashing, but that may not be turned on.

I have also upgraded my box to 1Tb, but I don't have any problems with slow response. What % of the disk is taken when you're editing the files? I have been operating typically at about 40 to 60% full.

I agree about the File Manager mode. Why does it show less information than the Media list? I find myself trying to remember which program I have watched by memorising the date and the relative position of the file in the list before switching over to File Manager mode and then working my way through the names pressing Info as I go. Why can't I just press delete in the Media list?
Replaced the remote with a Harmony. It is so much easier to operate. How can you get a remote layout wrong these days? There are so many that are right - just copy one!

Delete is an option when you press OK on a file in media list.

Indeed and you are in exactly the correct location if you do it when you have just finished watching the programme.
The time taken is unconnected with size of disk but with the number of files. The programme name and other details (length and other info) do not come from the filename but from reading and processing a seperate information file (.hmt) for each programme (.ts) file. The size of each programme has no impact on the time taken to display the media list.

No they don't - they are cleaned up in the overnight housekeeping run when they have reached the required age - [I don't remember how long this is but I think it's about 2 months]
As freesat does not indicate when a series has finished the next episode will continue to be looked for until housekeeping deletes it.

All this time I've used the Humax, I never saw that option!
I guess I just wasn't looking for it in that part of the menu.
