they are dinosours, and all dinosours must die out eventually.
as the years go by these types of complaints will become less and less frequent, until they are practically non existant! only if the tv shows dont pander to them though, they should be completely ignored!! its the only way to move forward as a society... |

To be fair, the majority of people complaining about that are probably from an older generation where education about sexuality wasn't as prominent as it is now. Thankfully it's a very outdated view and will gradually die out... slowly but surely. The show never even had a gay character until 2004 and it took a further 6 years for a lesbian storyline!

It's mostly conservative parents and small minded people who still think gay is wrong and don't want too see the level of intimacy on screen portrayed.

Not mentally disturbed, just backward. Whenever there's any type of social change, be it feminism, racial equality or acceptance of homosexuality, there will always be those who dig their heels in the sand and refuse to move with the times. When I was a child in the 80s I had no idea that homosexuality even existed. There was little about it on television and a lesbian friend of my family felt I was too young to know about her sexuality. Nowadays, you would be hard pressed to find a child in my community who didn't know the meaning of the words gay and lesbian. Whenever social change is quick, as the widespread acceptance of homosexuality has been, people will stubbornly cling to their old ideas. Some people find change harder to accept than others and need more time to come around. Others just can't handle the thought that they may have been wrong all these years so they decide that they aren't and the world's gone crazy and frequently declare that society is just too permissive these days.

Quite pathetic really that people complained.
I have a right to complain about thing's that wouldn't be upsetting anyone by me complaining, such as the cafe changing as that ruins my enjoyment of the show. But I don't see how a gay couple is anything new now-a-days? If someone complained about me kissing one of my ex gf's, i'd do it all the more.

Two guys I can understand but two lesbians!
![]() ![]() Personally I think it's a shame that people complain about homosexual storylines. They're not offensive, or wrong; just a portrayal of real life. If anything, the fact that people are complaining like it's something out of the norm just shows the need for gay/lesbian couples to be shown on a more regular basis, until the bigots accept that it's just a way of life. |

Oh that old chestnut again. I don't know what age you're referring to but I'm 57 and can remember those brave people who instigated The Gay Liberation Front (as it was then known) more than 40 years ago, and who I might add, had thousands of straight supporters.

Great response! I can't remember the last time I heard about an OAP beating someone to death because of their sexuality. However, there was a teenage girl sentenced not long ago for doing just that.
My only complaint about romance/sex scenes is why do people have to make so much noise when they're kissing? Why can't they do nice little civilized kisses, a la Rock Hudson? Why do they have to open their mouths as wide as a cement mixer? The gender combination? I don't care. I do get concerned that it's still enough of an issue to be an issue. |

Possibly, but it's infinitely more small minded not to allow room for opinions which differ from your own.

It says:
It's been older people saying Coronation Street shouldn't have this storyline but I just think that's ignorant if I'm honest. It's a democratic country with freedom of speech so if it's OK to be saying pro gay things freely these days then it should also be OK to say anti gay things too. If you can say one but not the other, then it's not freedom of speech at all. |
