O2 iPhone Tarriff - Data settings for another handset

Hi

I have still got my iPhone tariff but no longer have the handset as I sold it. I now have a Windows 7 phone. I text ACTIVE to 2020 and it says there is a problem and to call O2.

Please help - I do not want to change my tariff as O2 and just want data on my new phone.

Thanks

K.

Try putting the iphone tariff APN in the network settings and see what happens:

APN: idata.o2.co.uk
Username: vertigo
Password: password

The normal APN is mobile.o2.co.uk on contract tariffs (username and passwords are the same), but the idata APN does not work unless you have an iPhone tariff - I'm not certain if the reverse is true. In addition, I am not sure whether the iPhone APN will work on non-iPhones.

If you have no luck, you won't have to change your tariff, but you might need to get your data bolt-on changed to a standard smartphone one. (In which case make sure you ask for it to happen then next day - it is set to come on at the start of your next billing cycle by default but this can be overridden).

You might lose unlimited data if you have it.

Thanks for your help - entered the APN settings above and connection successful! Don't suppose you know the settings to manually configure the MMS too please?

Thanks in advance

Should be the same.

wap.o2.co.uk is the usual APN for MMS, but the iPhone tariff uses the idata one. If you have problems, you could try the 'wap.o2.co.uk' one.

Yeah - tried the 'idata' one and doesn't appear to work (which is odd as the internet and emails work).

I'm only concerned that if I use the 'wap' one then they won't tie into my account tariff and I'll be charged ... ?

You could call o2 and ask, but they might just say you need to change your bolt on!
