It's going to make the decline for the results show look worse because iirc the results show was at 9 last year.

I may have actually overstated it a bit - Deadline reports that overall viewing by adults 18-49 was down just 4% last night which isn't too much (I always thought it was more like 10%).

The Idol results shows last year did move to 9pm, I think around this stage, so it could feel the effect more tonight.

On Deadline, it is all but confirmed that LA Reid is to be a judge on The X Factor in America. I imagine more details will be revealed as we get closer to the auditions

Parks & Recreation, Community and The Office have all been renewed for a further season (30 Rock was renewed late last year).

Rather surprisingly, ABC have ordered a 6 part series of 101 Ways To Lose A Gameshow, clearly not put off by its dire showing in the UK. They piloted the show last summer but were assumed to have let it drop. Presumably it will get a lead-in from Wipeout.

And as mentioned, L.A Reid is all but confirmed as a judge on X Factor. He quit his role as Chairman & CEO of Island Def Jam and is expected to take a senior role at Sony Music. The likelihood is that details of the 2 hosts and the 2 remaining judges will be gradually leaked over the next week or so before an official announcement next week.

I think L.A Reid is a great 'get' for X Factor US, as far as experience and reputation goes they couldn't have done much better.

Will be interesting to see more detailed news ratings for the last few days, and indeed for the coming days with the possibility of British and French led air strikes against Libya beginning within hours.

am I to understand this is how Football works.

the various TV channels, offer bids to the football governing bodies, for the various competitions, in the hopes that they will get the best ratings.

To get the best ratings, TV channels sometimes want inivudal teams, to play other teams, this is sometimes decided by a lottery style draw, or by a group of men chasing a ball around for a bit, and this is the part the viewers see, and what brings in the ratings.

However as in all sports, ther "team" (or in this case TV channel) with the most money can bid on the best rights (or players) and get more profits from their games.

I have to say its seems unfair on the TV channels, that sometimes the matches and team combition they get is down to a random draw, where as sometimes its down to the result of a played game.

Have I understood football & how its played by the TV channels correctly?

Waterloo Road did well, boosted by a slight decrease in the football coverage due to the dire match. Channel 5 aren't going to be impressed with the football results tonight but then whenthey signed the contract I doubt they thought they'd be airing many Liverpool matches at all.

Manchester City's exit from Europe should mean that ITV1 get a free choice of Saturday 16th April or Sunday 17th April for the Manchester semi-final at Wembley.

According to some sports journalists on Twitter, it will be Saturday 16th at 5.15pm.

Louis Walsh pretty adamant on the radio just now that Cowell won't be doing both the UK and US X Factor this year, and that he thinks he'll be doing the US version.

Very good rating for Waterloo Road last night. That's its highest rating in a while, and this series seems to be rating strongly each week, and is more consistent than previous series.

On the other hand, that's shocking for Jamie's Dream School! I thought it would do a lot better and the ratings must be a real disappointment for C4. It's generated discussion and debate but ultimately that isn't much use to them when the numbers are rubbish.

Not really anything new as Louis has been saying that for months. Ultimately I highly doubt he'll be involved as heavily as he was last year but I also doubt he'll leave altogether. He's not stupid and must realise that there is a chance that X Factor will flop in the US (unlikely perhaps but not impossible) so removing himself from the UK show completely would be braindead on his part.

My prediction is that he'll appear on the live performance shows as an impartial judge with no acts to mentor. He wouldn't need to be there for the Sunday show then, and if they want they could have him casting his vote via videolink. The early stages are more difficult. My suggestion would be for him to appear at the London auditions only with guest judges in the other cities. They could use last year's format of a guest judge for the first half of each episode before returning to London with Simon for the last half hour or so. I doubt he'll bother with bootcamp/judges houses.

On another note, Russell Brand, Ann Widdecombe, David Hasselhoff and Patsy Palmer have all been confirmed as guests for the next series of Piers Morgan's Life Stories. Certainly an interesting mix! I think it'll do pretty well after BGT with some of those guests.

I guess it must continue from tonights episode (which was quite a Dark/Gritty episode in it's self) and the episode is written by the EastEnders/Comic relief team i think

Where is Glee? Where is Modern Family?

Well, Glee is 11th with $2 million per half hour and Modern Family is 16th with $1.6 million per half hour.

Idol I can understand but I'm surprise NCIS isn't in that list, it gets 20m viewers a week.

Two and a Half Men is a license to print money both in new episodes and syndication so CBS and Warner Bros will try and anyway they can to salvage a ninth season because 200 episodes will set them up nicely.

Obviously it emphasises demographics over total numbers. But what's more surprising, is that it seems to imply a huge lag for advertisers in responding to shows varying ratings.

I'd have thought that for a while now, it would have been plain that Glee & Modern Family were hits. Particularly Modern Family (I guess there could be some uncertainty over Glee given its nature and being put in an 8pm slot without Idol).

On the other hand, advertisers are still paying huge money for Desperate Housewives?

I remember a similar list last year (or maybe 2 years ago) putting huge numbers on Heroes despite the fact that it was nearing cancellation!

Some shows like Jersey Shore, Teen Mom and Glee skew very young for their ratings whereas NCIS does brilliant in viewers but has the same 18-49 demo. I imagine CBS does better in 25-54 due to the nature of its shows whereas FOX does better in the desirable 18-49 due to shows like Glee and American Idol.

I think ABC is also performing decently (in 2010) in 18-49 (in case of Private Practice, they overtake The Mentalist in 18-34) demo and their press release constantly boast their strong ratings in all key women demos.

I think FOX tied the 25-54 with CBS last year - with The Superbowl effect this year they'll probably do it again.

The other thing about Glee is that it skews extremely high towards what we'd call "ABC1" - in the US they measure it as "adults 18-49 with household income of $100,000 or more p/a" and "adults 18-49 with 4 or more years college education".

I suspect it'll catch up over time and DH will drift out. Though quite why NCIS isn't there, I'm not sure.

Channel 5 did The Farmer Wants a Wife which all but flopped so I can't see The Bachelor doing any better.



I suspect it's because NCIS skews older compared to the likes of Idol or Glee but I imagine it makes that up with syndication revenue. Both NCIS Los Angeles and The Mentalist got cable syndication deals worth $2m an episode on USA and TNT respectatively.

I cant think of any succesful Channel 5 reality shows.
