According to ABC's daytime President, they only planned to get rid of one (planning began a year ago) but:

Quote:
“the way the ratings developed and the pilots turned out, the ratings developed negatively and pilots developed positively, so we decided to make a bigger shift”

He also ruled ABC out of the running for Katie Couric.

I wonder if they'll get through a whole year without anymore soaps being cancelled? Days is locked for a while yet and ABC won't axe General Hospital so soon. So all eyes on The Bold & The Beautiful, presumably.

EastEnders was absolutely phenomenal tonight, it deserves a huge rating for that episode.

Happens quite a bit.
My Virgin TV service went off and a message popped up on screen saying 'Service Back soon'

6 out of 10 trending topics are EastEnders related on twitter.

I hope the ratings are massive but i doubt it

Tuned in and was bored to be honest, expected better but fraid there was nothing that made me want to tune back in on monday, so happy the BBC has poo pooed the very notion of a fifth episode.

And Ritchie is a lying **** of the highest order, he knew he was going on the One Show, hell we knew yesterday he was going to be on it so avoided it at all costs.

Ruddy show.

Great figures for it last night, and it'll probably see a boost tonight as well. Coronation Street was never going to compete; from the way people are talking they were expecting a low key departure on the weakest night of the week (for Coronation Street) to thrash the upcoming conclusion of the biggest soap storyline of the year.

Talking of the soaps, ITV's scheduling of them is a joke, spread them across the week and if they claim Tuesday night rights back then switch the day over with Wednesday. It's not rocket science.

Monroe did as well as expected; it should not return though. Channel 5 were always going to struggle with the football but it held up respectably considering.

The reaction from the episode has been amazing already and Mondays looks to be even better but i guess your not really a regular viewer

B&B's second place in the US market coupled with its strong international sales must make it one of the safest. It's the most watched soap in the world, with an estimated audience of over 26 million worldwide. It is broadcast in over 100 countries.

Interestingly it is very popular in Australia, with around 400,000 viewers per episode. Its high popularity there even saw it promoted to a 6pm slot very briefly in 2008, before returning to its regular 4:30pm timeslot which it has held on Channel Ten since 1996. It occupied the 1pm slot for 8 years prior to that.

I think EastEnders is the only show on TV to get this sort of reaction.

I think from now on EastEnders is going to be dead level with corrie (if not ahead) becuase there's a few more 'big' storylines coming up including the very popular Syed and Christian gay muslim wedding

Bryan Kirkwood has had problems finding his feet but he seems to be settling in now.

Coronation Street is ok; I think it's getting worse now though. Maybe it's time for Phil Collinson to go - when a show gets stuck in a downward trajectory it's hard to pull it up.

The problem with Collinson is that it appears his storyline philosophy was based around one event, now that event came and went it's going back to Kim Crowther's bad ways.

I agree!
October-Dec was quite boring and so was Feb but right now EastEnders is on fine form.

It seems quite a few corrie fans want him to move on and not being a corrie fan myself i couldn't say but having cast a huge Eastenders star (Cindy beale) won't work imo.

It think Diedrick Santer worked the same way with EastEnders; because of the live episode everything was based around that which left a few weak storylines after it was aired. Luckily Santer left after the live, and Kirkwood has gradually picked up the pieces.

But Collinson's first aim was the anniversary, which he did well. Now he seems slightly clueless.

I think alot of people worried that would happen.

I heard him and ITV saying how the event will make 2011 one of Corrie's best ever and that doesn't seem to be happening (as far as i can tell going by people's opinions)

I'm not sure - I think the casting is one area where he's doing well and I think Michelle Collins' character could breath live into the Rovers. For me, the characters in Coronation Street are being let down by very poor storylines.

dont get me wrong it was an amazing episode, but I still want the 5 extra minutes you promised me.

Im also thinking the "death" mention, was of baby James, Ronnie having finally let him go.

Dont watch Corrie, so I cant comment too much but it does sem odd casting Michelle Collins, normally EE & Corrie avoid casting from each other, and for good reason I thinkg.

Yes i was until it got itself in a mess regarding Kirkwood and his nonsense, tuned in tonight to see if it was worth trying again but the jury is still out for me in that to be honest.

One thing i will say is that the episode felt like it was all Beedles work and it showed, i sense the two biggest failures on EE , Green and Kirkwood had little or nothing to do with it. Going to PM you as i want to ask you something.

The episode was longer and finished past 8:30.
But yeah wasn't really 5mins longer

I think it was clear that James/Tommy wasn't going to die as the BBC would have too many complaints but whats to say that someone (Ronnie) doesn't die next week?
Imo there's nothing left for her in Walford now

Thing is Cindy is an EastEnders legend and i just don't think it would work havin her in corrie

It doesn't seem to have gone down well.

Just Imagine having someone like Ken Barlow In EastEnders or Ian Beale moving to Corrie.

Michelle (cindy) is too much of an EastEnders Legend imo

iPlayer is pretending the EE is 35 minutes, but when you hit play it changes to 29 minutes & 21 seconds, which basiclly 30 minutes.

So instead of an extra 5 minutes, it turned out to be an extra 21 seconds!
