Brilliant start for Essex, like the previous poster said, it says a lot when the 2nd series first episode launches more than the 1st ever episode (or any episode before).... could go The Inbetweeners way, as the promotion seems to be like the kind The Inbetweeners was getting, and this helped the ratings increase every single episode.

DOI skate off looks low, especially for a semi.

Shame the Beeb felt the need to swap the news back to 10pm, as it cost the planned BBC1 10-10.30 content about 1.5-2m viewers by putting it out at 10.35 instead. Still, to be getting 9.6m viewers at 10.45pm is sensational, and that was around the time of the Smithy sketch, so at least a decent audience got to see the high-point of the evening - just not the c11m it would have got if aired at c10pm as apparently planned.

Note the 2.2m drop for the 9.55-10pm segment which was simulcast with BBC2 as viewers were implored to switch over. Had they not done that until 9.59pm, the main show would probably have secured a proper 10m overnight figure.

Interesting that there was a big 1m leap at 8pm, even though Corrie ran on. Didn't expect CR to be getting up to 9.2-9.6m against Corrie - quite an achievement.

It is a shame to see those numbers plummet after 11pm, as that was when some of the best stuff went out. But 4m at midnight and well over 2m at 1am is pretty fantastic, however you look at it.

Since then, all the episodes apart from last night's results show have been up or flat compared to the equivalent episode last year. Week 9 was up +3%, week 10 up +4%, whilst yesterday's was down -1% due to the low-rated results show pulling down the averages.

I had a feeling that it would timeshift very well. I imagine a lot of people record the two parts and watch them in one go.

Excellent timeshift, had hoped it could reach 7m.

Very true, yet so much emphasis is put on overnights and very little is said of the timeshifted ratings.

Thanks Rzt.

I suppose ITV will be happy that it hasnt fallen further after last year but still should be doing better.

The Killing is doing really well, and its audience seems to be be growing. Its getting bigger ratings than the much hyped and publicised Mad Men, which is pretty sensational for a Danish tv show in subtitles!

I was aware of the rave reviews when it launched, but just wasn't interested enough in committing to a 20 part subtitled drama, especially as it was being shown in double episodes each week. But having seen the massive Wire-like fuss the quality press has been making about it over the last couple of weeks - even generating a leading article in The Times the other day - I decided to check out the first couple of eps on iPlayer at the weekend - only to find the entire series is there apart from episodes 1-3.

So I didn't bother. What's the point in having episodes 4-20 only available?!

Excellent for both, with BBC News eclipsing BBC Three and Sky News beating Sky1 in terms of audience share for the week. Some programme ratings for Friday 11th March, the day the earthquake and tsunami hit Japan:

4pm
BBC News (BBC News): 659,000

5pm
BBC News at Five O'Clock (BBC News): 838,000
Live at Five (Sky News): 417,000

6pm
Six O'Clock News (BBC News): 733,000
Sky News at Six (Sky News): 418,000

7pm
News, Sport and Weather (Sky News): 429,000

And for Saturday 12th March:

9am
BBC News (BBC News): 513,000
Sunrise (Sky News): 436,000

10am
BBC News (BBC News): 504,000
Saturday Live (Sky News): 430,000

I thought long and hard about committing to this but am very glad I did. It is easily THE best police procedural drama series telling a terrific story with twists and turns. You do not even care it is in Danish. Indeed the new setting makes it more interesting.

Not surprised that US TV are remaking it where the local politics story thread will make it work,

It could have worked with a UK version but there are issues over how the inevitable reduction from 20 episodes would have impacted on the way this cleverly developed story works on various levels (I have never thought the Danish original looks padded in any sense and that is no mean feat in the circumstances).

Maybe a cheap BBC rescreen on BBC 1 would work getting UK actors to read the subtitles!

But no surprise that most people who watched it have stuck with it and word of mouth has added a few as it just works in that undefinable way some things do.

As for the Titanic mini series, there was a fairly recent docu drama about the building of it in Belfast using CGI as I recall.

So I am assuming NOT 'County Down-ton' as suggested earlier but more like 'Going Down ton(nage)'...

Apparently they have been caught by a BBC Trust rule that only allows a certain number of episodes of a show to be stored on iplayer.

Edited to add I agree with Jaycee Dove, it's a worthwhile investment. The way the story unfolds is compelling and it wouldn't work in 3 or 6 episodes. It will be interesting to see whether any UK producer is brave enough to try a similar format. The fact that the actors are unknown adds to te show and they are terrific too.

She ignored the advice of her agent (who she then sacked) to stay at the BBC where they were promising to make her ''The Face of the Olympics'' and jumped ship with Chiles to what now looks like a very uncertain future. There was some vague talk of her doing an X Factor spin-off but that doesn't seem to have materialised.

I read in the papers yesterday that Chiles is going to quit Daybreak imminently to concentrate on the football and his Sunday show. He's "had enough" apparently.

Shame about Christine. She had a bright future, now it's tainted by failure.

MG is reporting a lower audience of 9.1m for Comic Relief. This includes BBC News at Ten, contrary to what the article says.

Interesting pay TV snippet for Friday:

Quote:
“True Blood: FX, 10pm – The third series of the supernatural drama continued with 247,000 viewers.

Multichannel competition included Sky Atlantic's David Simon drama Treme, with 19,000 (0.1%) from 10.15pm.”

Strange thing, in the officials the 9pm episode always has more than the 10pm one. Seems to be a lot of people watching the odd numbered episodes and missing the even numbered ones.

They won't know how it finishes!!

BBC Four has found a niche with the foreign language dramas, they have shown Spiral and Swedish Wallander but The Killing seem to have become a hit. I wouldn't be surprised if they pick up the American remake.

Wonder what other foreign dramas they'll pick up, there was this German crime drama called Kommisener Rex whixh is about a dog that helps the police solves murder.

Apparently Spiral (series 3?) will be taking the same slots as The Killing when that finishes in a couple of weeks time.
