I agree with rzt about Law and Order: UK. Yes, last night's rating was pretty low but being dented by WTD isn't too much of a surprise. I suspect both dramas would have got a million or so more if it hadn't aired against the other. L&O is very dip-in, dip-out, which can be both an advantage and a disadvantage for it. The DVD release dates suggest that the next series will air in July/August, which is a good move as I doubt it'll face much, if any drama competition and it doesn't seem like the sort of show that would be dented by airing in the Summer.
Ultimately, whilst last night's rating wasn't great, 4.1m (or 4.3m with +1) is hardly a disaster and like rzt said, how many other dramas would claim that sort of audience against WTD. People say that Silk is doing well, but that only got 0.5m more last week against far, far weaker competition so I don't think last night's rating is too bad for it in the long run.
I wonder how much it costs per episode. With them making 13 per year in bulk, and the sets pretty fixed, I can't imagine it being one of the more expensive dramas on TV, so maybe ITV can afford to schedule it as they do. I wouldn't be surprised if they view it in a similar fashion as the BBC view Waterloo Road, in that it'll get them a reasonable audience pretty much wherever but isn't a spectacular performer wherever it goes. I suspect it costs a bit more than Waterloo Road as the calibre of actors is much higher, but it's worth a thought...

I presume they're limited by the number of ads they can show in one night. I know they aired Lewis after the 2 hour DOI Final in 2008 and 2009 but ITV can air more ads per 2 hour programme now than they could then and we all know that ITV like to milk things for all they're worth. I know they still run things like Marple at 9pm after a busy pre-watershed schedule but Lewis gets much higher ratings than Marple (and they'll be hoping that Vera will too). I do think that the scheduling is sloppy though, I'd have gone with this:
17:25 - Mr Bean's Holiday
19:00 - Dancing on Ice Final
21:20 - Music Special
Meaning that DOI can end at a more reasonable time and start at the same time as Countryfile, but still strangle WTD, and the music special would do better at 21:20 than at 21:00 due to other channels being 20 minutes in to their programmes.

There are 4 x Lewis episodes waiting to be broadcast. 5 x Vera episodes, both presumably destined for Sundays.
Will they stretch out BGT over the whole weekend ?
19:00 Britains Got Talent
20:00 Lewis / Vera
Popstar to Operastar is destined for Sunday isn't it ? Too soon for that to start ?
So many questions

I think rzt said BGT is likely to return on 23rd April based on the sponsorship dates. I think The Cube and Life Stories will both return on the 9th though, as The Cube is 9 episodes and Life Stories is 7 (including the When Piers Met Lord Lloyd Webber special), so The Cube would end on BGT Final night and Life Stories would finish the week before the Champions League Final. I suspect they'll have The Cube at 20:00 and Piers at 21:00 on the 9th and the 16th with movies or Best of TV Burp/YBF before it, before going to your schedule from the 23rd (but with BGT for only an hour from the 30th).
I think they will air BGT across the weekend. If it does start on 23rd April, they'll have 5 weeks until the Champions League Final and the start of the lives, so with 2 shows a week, I think they'll have 8 audition shows (1 more than last year), the YouTube show they announced recently and a selection show (they can easily get an hour out of that).
So, I think on the 3rd, 10th and 17th they'll have factual at 19:00 with Lewis at 20:00 with BGT slotting in at 20:00 from the 24th with Lewis, and later Vera at 21:00. 4 episodes each of Lewis and Vera takes them to the 22nd May, which fits perfectly as the BGT lives should then start on the 29th.
I think Popstar To Operastar is due back in June. With the 29th being the last week of BGT, it could start as early as the 5th June but ITV might want a break between the two talent shows.
