Well, if you're going to reply to one of my posts, I don't see the reason why I can't reply back. You made it sound like HIGNFY never performs well when it has a poor 9.30-10pm programme paired up with it, I just posted the facts to show you that it has done well in the past even when it's had a low rated programme scheduled next to it...

No matter what, we should be able to all agree on (I hope!) that this series average of Benidorm was 6.30m (26.5%) and below were the figures, as sourced from DS:

25/02 - 7.31m (30.2%), 265,000
04/03 - 6.64m (28.2%), 290,000
11/03 - 6.17m (25.5%), 256,000
25/03 - 6.03m (25.4%), 322,000
01/04 - 6.05m (25.6%), 268,000
08/04 - 5.62m (24.2%), 224,000

The average, including +1 was 6.57m.

Absolutely.

It was the instant deployment of the facts to undermine my argument that I was impressed with.

Predicting negative ratings for the Grand National yet?

If you predict -2m and it gets 4m that will be about right

I'm sure by now you know that I do like my ratings facts . If someone's going to post something which is either untrue or misleading to people (whether deliberately or not deliberately), I'll try and pick them up on that.

Anyway, I didn't even say it was a bad rating in the first place. At the time of writing, I didn't know its lead-in (AQOS) rated as poorly as it did, so taking that into consideration I think HIGNFY did okay. It'll recover to its usual 5m range next week up against Paul O'Grady Live and total viewing levels will be back up.

I think if they do another series, it won't begin as high as what the first episode there did as surely by series 5, anyone interested in the show would've checked it out by now. It looks like ~1m 'new' viewers who checked out the first couple of episodes didn't particularly like it but it still has its ~6m hardcore fanbase, which is why I think ITV will most likely give it another series.

The only major issue is when they'll film another series due to the actors' availability. I'm not sure they could have a series in 2012 because they'd surely have to film it this Autumn. And that might be too soon given that it's April already and they need new writers, contract negotiations, write the scripts etc which will take a while. Siobhan Finneran is busy with Downton Abbey filming between March to July this year (and most likely next year), Steve Pemberton is filming Whitechapel in the summer. So they might only be able to film another series in Autumn 2012, meaning the show might not be back on TV until 2013.

Benidorm dipped a bit too but it seemed to hold up better than most things (it only lost about 7% of its audience from last week, other shows lost more) and 5.8m is a cracking audience. It is down from where this series started but it is in line with previous series. This series has averaged 6.6m [inc. +1] and has timeshifted and repeated really well (must be reaching 9-10m per week over all the screenings). ITV will want it to come back.”

Was it just the weather ? According to the BBC forecast at 6.30 am today there were large parts of the UK which did not have particularly warm weather yesterday, notably Scotland and Northern Ireland. I wonder if people have just found better things to do on Friday nights ?

I can't say for NI but the parts of Scotland I was in were Sunny and I noticed lots of people in the park across from my street. Then again just a little bit of Sun and the whole of Scotland goes crazy since we never see it

Too damned right, Charnham, this depressing soap is on too much and we still have to have an omnibus inflicted on us. I suppose some buffoon will want an extra episode on Mondays and repeats through the night on BBC Three.

Thanks a lot for that. Two questions:

1) Do you have a peak? (The audience would likely have tailed off a bit towards the end).

2) Any figures for last night? (When the golf was truly exceptional).

docors seem very low for a bbc slot. Does anyone know what the lead in doctors gets before 1:45pm?

Now I suppose, just as some people classed DOI as a flop, now Benidorm will get the same treatment. 6 million for a drama on a Friday night is very good these days and I can see another two series being made. At least it's preferable to a stinker like Marco's Kitchen Burnout that occupied the slot last year and fell off the end of a cliff.

I think we'll see some shocking low ratings tonight.

Ok, SYTYCD is struggling but I can't see people rushing in to watch Mama Mia either.

Maybe Piers & Andrew Lloyd Webber will do ok after dark ?

It peaked with 665k at 21:25.

Between 9-11pm, it was averaging between 500-600k on the whole. 11-11:30pm it dipped to about 400k, 23:30-00:00 it was down to about 250k, 00:00-00:30 it dropped to approximately 130k.

Not at the moment. I get the overnights I one day late (which is annoying!) so I'll probably be able to post Friday's figure tomorrow.

The Doctor Who season can't come too soon and I think this season is going to be lot better than last year, as a few of the episodes were slow. My prediction is DW will kick off with 8 million viewers. Anything is better than clunkers like Casualty and You've Been Framed.

rzt, do you know what how TOTP compares with what BBC4 usually gets at 7.30 on a weeknight. I imagine for BBC3 and BBC4 their "peak-viewing" is after 9pm once the soaps have finished? Just want to know to get an indication if TOTP repeats are likely to carry on past the planned first year.

Thanks in advance.

I can't see this happening as HIGNFY is a more ABC1 programme than Paul O Grady, who seems to go more for a C2DE older demographic. Also POG's ratings were stuck around the 3 million mark last time and he really is more suited to teatime slots.

Between 7.30-9pm, BBC4 usually gets between 100-200k. So the TOTP repeats did really well.

What sort of nonsense are BBC1 showing just before tha National starts? It might as well be on ITV if the BBC runs ad breaks anyway
