You used to be a Media website, not an entertainment website - and the ratings for the National are one of the media stories of the day (we're not asking for a minute by minute breakdown of a random Saturdays C4 Racing!). Unfortunately though of late Digital Spy is far more interested in bringing us astonishing news such that The Only Way is Essex is fake!



ITV especially miss the structure that Saturday morning TV gave them - they've now wiped kids TV completely from both Saturday and Sunday, but have nothing to replace it with. Both BBC and ITV are already suffering from not having the presenter creating staple that is Saturday morning TV - indeed at the moment I guess only T4 is doing that - though even there it is only the blokes breaking through.

The kids simply have better things to do now. Gone are the days when these shows could command millions of viewers - or even 1m viewers. Kids are playing game consoles, on laptops and watching digital channels, or more likely sleeping in after doing all of the former the night before.

It sort of hard to predict film ratings given it vary from channel to channel, Transformers did great on Channel 4 as was Iron Man but others like The Simpsons Movie didn't do as well.

Look around, Maccy D's is still crammed with school kids wanting burgers, and instead of sat in front of the TV, they're on the PS3 or tweeting.

Yet, commercial TV was held the scapegoat for what is in effect poor parenting.

And RobbieSykes gets a bad press for under-predicting and you come out with this gem yet nobody has said anything.


No doubt it will join Hot Fuzz to be on a continupus loop on ITV2. I predict 12 more screening for the year (excluding +1).


Under 500k is seriously low. Would ITV have actually made a profit during those 12 hours?


Thats the whole point really. Is it worth harming your number one show to boost an underperforing dance contest by a few hundred thousand? No.


If only the BBC or Film4 had agreed to co-finance it.


I think it would be a waste revenue wise to put Dark Knight on Christmas Day. I would say that repeating Mamma Mia would be a good shout, Your not wasting a film premiere and ITV will probably get a solid 4m at least.

These were good shows and popular with adults as well as they were so well made. Who really wants to watch highlights, if there are any, of This Morning and yet another Coronation St repeat?

You obviously haven't watched ITV1 between 6 and 9.25 am on Saturday and Sunday mornings, it's 100% kids.

I personally think they should launch "Daybreak - The Best Bits" in that slot.

Or highlights of GMTV, which would fill about two minutes. Seriously, though, dropping SMTV and CDUK was a big mistake and the morning schedule on ITV1 on Saturdays is totally lame and cheap.

In the US weekend daytime tv is pretty non existent bar local news and sports.

I'd ideally like ITV to do something like this:

6am kids
7am highlights of weekday Daybreak
8am Weekend Daybreak live
10am-12noon US series re-runs (A team, Magnum, The Fall Guy, etc)

On Friday, Masters Golf on Sky Sports 1 between 19:00-00:30 averaged 489k. It peaked with 722k at 22:00. Yep, nothing in for yesterday yet.

It can't have been that much of a mistake, as as soon as ITV scrapped the Saturday children's magazine, the BBC followed suit.

Been a bit quiet since the one-off Around the World... update a few years ago.

Poor rating for Piers last night, especially with that strong inheritance from the movie. I didn't think it would rate brilliantly, but I felt sure it would top the low rated Gordon Brown episode from last year. (4.2m) AFAIK, that is the lowest rated of these "specials" yet. (not including Life Stories)

The Transporter 3 did ok-ish, in line with how the second movie faired for its premiere but that was up against The X Factor I believe, so C4 might be slightly disappointed in that respect. But like the other films in the series, it should repeat well and continue to be good value for them over the coming months. CSI: NY was very competitive I thought, not far behind Transporter at all, so C5 will be delighted with that. I guess a lot of people are into the habit of switching to C5 after Casualty now, regardless of what else might be on.

Despite all the hoo-ha about SYTYCD, it looks like it only slid 0.6 share points week-on-week. In the grand scheme of things, it's a bit of a non-story from last night. I'm not defending the show's ratings in any way as they are not very good, but has the situation changed dramatically from last week? No.

Thats the point I was making last week. A share of over 20% is not that bad, its just because the actual rating was low people seem to have totally dismissed it. The fact is everything has been low for the last two weeks compared to a couple of months ago.

Any bets on what the new episode of Doctor Who will get? I'm going for 8 million.
