Will iPhone5 bring the cost down on iPhone4?
I've been due an upgrade for ages now, but haven't found a phone that I'm happy with.
I'm a Nokia girl usually and just tried a N8 but was not impressed with it so didn't upgrade to it. I'd love an iPhone4 but out of my price range right now - I'm wondering whether the iPhone 5 coming out in the summer (so I'm told) will bring the cost of the iPhone4 down? I'm with Vodafone and the monthly cost for iPhone is just too expensive! Thanks

If you look at the 3GS it came out free on £35 a month contracts, almost 2 years later its still the same, and when the iPhone 5 comes out the 3GS will disappear with no price reduction, so I don't expect the iPhone 4 to reduce any in price, the iPhone 5 will just be more expensive, free on £55 per month tariffs maybe

You have to admire Apple's business model where the phone market is concerned...
Release a phone charging that much for it it means 2 years, a hefty monthly fee and even money upfront. Re-release it every year, discontinuing the old version, to keep that inflated price. I sometimes wonder do people consciously decide "I'll go with odd numbers get Iphone 3gs, Iphone 5 and then Iphone 7".... where some people prefer even numbers and wanna go 4, 6, 8??? I don't like Apple or their products but have to admire their unique business. |

The iPhone 4GS or whatever named will be released in time for xmas. APPS and their 30% filter cut are without doubt the new aspiration. Choice and price is now the new game. |

I think that the 4 will switch to a 3GS screen, get a price of £200 or £150 on PAYG.

You really think the iPhone 4 is going to be available for £150.00?
Even a 3GS with O2 on PAYG is still £399.

It was called 3G because it was the first model to utilise the 3G network. Nothing to do with generation. The 3GS was still the same phone, just used different software to make it faster, hence the S, for (s)peed The iPhone 4 still uses the 3G network. It's just the 4th version of the iPhone. |

With a massive price cut and low resolution screen it's certain to get a new name.
Its not an iPhone 4 and I'm sure only the more gullible now buy the 3GS. |

Infact they used the same software and the hardware was completely different. Faster CPU, faster GPU, twice the RAM, better camera... On topic, the iPhone 4 will be lowered in price when the iPhone 5 comes out, just like the 3G and 3GS did. |

I have a feeling that the iphone 4 may suffer a greater price reduction than previous models simply because of the signal problems that have been attributed to it. Whether or not they are as bad as has been made out doesn't really matter, the fact is that a lot of people have decided that it is a faulty product and so will be less inclined to buy it when the "5" comes out.

I thought they were bringing out a "budget friendly" iPhone, for around £150.

It would be very unlike Apple to bring out a 'budget' device, it's not a territory they like to get into. However, some people have pointed to the fact that cheap Android handsets could be a threat to the iPhone's hold on the phone market. When everyone was releasing netbooks left, right and centre... Apple came up with the Air - something of a rethink on the netbook (focus on slimness rather than smaller - meaning bigger screen, keyboard area and emphasis on solid state drives which are expensive but give performance gains). This meant the Air ended up being a machine that could be used in the same way as a fully-fledged desktop (untill you start wanting to do things like video editing, gaming, store lots of data etc). Whereas netbooks always leave you wishing you had something 'full size' to work with. I think they may do something similar with the iPhone. Release a small, super-lightweight, probably low-powered version of the iPhone that is almost as expensive as the main thing. This would be more of an Apple thing to do! I am just speculating of course, but I would be amazed if they realised an iPhone for £150... for the same reason they won't release a laptop for £400... it just isn't their business model. |

Apple's business model seems to be not to discount hardware. They hardly ever do a sale on their website (except for Black Friday in November). That way, there's no expectation of price reductions.
There are rumours that Apple are planning a cheaper handset, but if that becomes more than a rumour, I'd expect it to be a whole new device. They seem to run stocks of older devices out ahead of a new launch. If you want something much cheaper than an iPhone and your budget won't stretch then head down to Carphone Warehouse and check out all the different Android phones and see what takes your fancy. |

Just wait the networks will do deals on iPhones 4's just before and after the 5's release much like T-Mobile etc have done discounted deals on the Original IPad.. But you'll still have a 18/24 month tie in at £25 or more a month it's the iPhone way!
As it will still be one of the top Phones a year after launch.. |

The 3GS had around a 50% faster processor, double the RAM, better graphics and a faster modem. It also had a better camera (2MP to 3MP) and video recording functionality. The battery was bigger (though it was only about a 5% increase). It was also the first phone to come in capacities up to 32GB. So it definitely wasn't the same phone! |
