I recently purchased the Onkyo HT-S6305 Surround system but would like to take advantage of the 7.1 setup by buying 4 extra satellite speakers that would be used for the front high and rear channels , Looking round it would seem that these sort of speakers come as part of a surround package ( with sub and centre speaker ) , I'm not looking at spending silly money as the onkyo is a mid budget system , so would be keen to hear what others recommend, would it be worth buying this: http://www.richersounds.com/product/...ama-nsp285-blk

7.1 is only two extra speakers over 5.1. Unless my maths has deteriorated substantially in the 30+ years since I was at school

Plus it would be best to get a matching set of speakers to ensure the best sound quality. So I would be tempted to go for this...

They are the expansion speakers for the Onkyo HTX22HDX system and look very similar to the ones supplied with the HTS6305 and would probably be a close sonic match. More so than the Yamaha speakers I suspect.

And you save a quid or three into the bargain

Just had another look at the setup manual again and 7.1 consists of:
Subwoofer,
centre ,
front l & r ,
front high l & r ,
surround l & r ,
back l & r

Looking at the speaker choice again i might go with the jamo package http://www.richersounds.com/product/.../jamo-a102-blk

and sell on the sub a centre speakers

Since it all depends on correct phases, ideally the speakers shd be matched, ie, same as ones u already got.

Hmmm...... setting up 7.1 ...... presumably easier than 9.1 but harder than 5.1 .........

That's 9.1 though. Simply count the number of speakers excluding the sub, that gives you the first number.

7.1 could have Front High OR Back but not both.

If you count the number of main terminals on the back of the Onkyo receiver you'll see there are only seven pairs.

I'm not sure if the spring terminal connectors which are also labelled Zone 2 can actually be used at the same time as the Front High/Back main terminals. On my Onkyo 507 i know if the Zone 2 terminals are used I lose the main Surround L/R speakers completely.

Though the 608 manual does sort of imply you can wire up all 9 speakers at the same time. But I wonder if it is worth it as I don't think Blu-Ray supports more than 7.1 anyway so two of the 9 speakers may not do very much?
