Thats like saying my ford Ka can get more mpg than a BMW M3. Therefore my ford Ka is better.
Not really. If you want to make a phone call or do something and your battery is dead, than the iPhone is better.

BTW, apple have incorporate multi-tasking into ios...just very badly.
Disregarding the stilted English, that is a matter of opinion. The Android implication is a very mixed blessing.

Here we go again...

There must be some proper, independent reviews of smartphone battery life that can be used for direct comparison.
A lot depends on personal usage, so it's hard to estimate unless it's the same person doing exactly the same things.

Well, if your M3 runs out of petrol halfway through the journey and the Ka gets you to your destination, then it is better in that instance!

You cant really compare the two..its like comparing apples and pears. One lets you do virtually nothing (in comparison), whilst android lets you have live wallpapers, widgets, multi task etc. Of course android battery is going to last less time, thats because its doing more stuff that takes up more juice. Its not exactly rocket science. You can of course not use any of the fancy features, which will then extend the battery life.

Let me see, two days battery life or a minor clock bug?

Easy choice for most people.
3rd day with my battery, 14% left and no 'minor' alarm clock bug. yep a very very easy choice.

why oh why would people rely on a £500 device 'equipped' with an alarm clock to wake them up?! my advice? go buy a £10 casio wind up to wake you up. another even easier choice for iphone owners

Its why there are petrol stations all over the place...they let you fill up. Its the phone equivalent of having a spare battery and switching them out when one runs out. Oh wait a minute...

must resist...sorry cant ...as long as you use the correct hand...otherwise no signal

At least its an option on android. Let the user decide if they want to use the feature or not.

Yes, just like every other mobile phone.

I hate to have someone who couldn't hold a phone properly as one of our recruits.

Can you shut it off now or does it continually drain the battery?

not like every other phone, I can use mine in either hand.

You cant shut it off, however you dont have to run more than app at a time. At least its properly implemented, and not a half arsed job done that apple implmented.

Only that's not entirely accurate. That's a stevie jobbie answer and not the truth.

The signal problem happened while holding the phone the correct way in the left hand. No other phone does that. The thumb on your left hand naturally goes down the left side of the phone thus causing the problem.

Cover any other phone with your whole hand and you will get a drop in signal but not a total loss like the iphone 4. But then again, no one would do that anyway so comparing the 2 is kind of stupid.

This is a genuine question, it's not a rhetorical one to make a point. What's the difference between multi-tasking as it exists in Android, and the 'frozen state' version that exists on iPhones?

Stupid answer.

Why bother having it on there in the first place. In fact, according to some on here, apple are faultless yet they cant even program an alarm clock app properly.

It is. Most phones manuals advise against covering the antenna.

The signal problem happened while holding the phone the correct way in the left hand. No other phone does that. The thumb on your left hand naturally goes down the left side of the phone thus causing the problem.
That isn't the correct way. The phone would be top heavy.

It's silly to suggest that covering the antenna on any phone doesn't cause attenuation.

Yes that is correct but most of not all phone companies do not put the antenna on the outside of the phone then blame the users for holding it incorrectly lol

Its the way pretty much everyone holds a phone. On my desire HD my thumb and the bottom part of it covers the entire side of the phone, the way most people hold it. How exactly according to jobs and apple users should i hold it?

It's silly to suggest that covering the antenna on any phone doesn't cause attenuation.
Never said it didn't but not to the extent the iphone does. Why do you think the iphone made the news and no other phone ever has in regards to this?

My Nokia 3210 is clearly vastly superior to an IPhone 4 as the battery used to last for a week

More seriously I would not mind the Iphone winning if it was a fair test. The first one was just a joke, the photo one Jon admitted to not knowing how to use the camera on the HTC (whilst of course he has used the IPhone camera quite a lot), and the last task, ignoring the daftness of motorbike vs. horse drawn carriage, had something odd go wrong with the Nexus which was lucky as the IPhone had wanted them to go the wrong way....

The IPhone 4 combined with the apps is quite possibly the best phone. But let it win fair and square.

I'm going have a look at the test, but "best" is so subjective that when you are comparing a couple of really good phones - there isn't a lot in it. When it comes time to replace my E72 I am going to have a look at the latest iPhone, Android, WP7 and Blackberry and decide which would be "best" for me.

I loved the bit when the Nexus S battery ran out, that just summed Android up to a T, sure you can turn things off etc, but use it like its supposed to be used and it just doesn't last the duration
Only half used according to this screenshot:

Quite why anyone here would use the gadget show as a sensible appraisal of each phone's merits is beyond me.

Exactly. I can use my iPhone 4 heavily all day with juice left over at the end of the day. If I used my Nexus One in the same way it would barely make 3pm. It's the price you pay for trying to bodge desktop OS multi-tasking into a mobile device. This is why Apple users are passionate, because Apple do things right when the time is right not just for the sake of doing it.
Funny that as my desirehd battery lasts longer my old iphone 4 doing the same things. Oh and the best thing about it is if it does run out i can always slap another battery in if need be. Can i do this with the iphone? No.

Apple do things right indeed lmao

To be perfectly honest i think only a halfwit would actually take this test for gospel.

Funny why they didnt have the desire hd in there

I don't think anyone actually takes The Gadget Show seriously, they are not exactly up there with the Cnets & Engadgets of this world.

All they done is took the best phone from each OS and put them through a few crappy tests, I suppose the Nexus S was picked over any other Android phone because its Googles flag ship phone.

I would of liked to see Nokias N8 stuck in there aswell to see how it preformed against the competition.

Its all horses for courses really anyway.

Oh for goodness sake, I wish I hadn't asked the flipping question now!

Can anyone, WHO ACTUALLY OWNS THE NEXUS S, give proper feedback about battery life? Can you reasonably get at least a day's use out of the phone without needing to tweak, underclock and generally faff about?
