Facts

The Apple App store made almost $2 Billion in revenue - the Google App store didn't even come close.

Apple has 82.7% of App store revenue.

The other App stores combined make peanuts and we all know who peanuts are for.

But as I pointed out last night it's more than just one app that is making more money on Android compared to the Apple version which is what you said and people have then questioned your knowledge of the subject.

You know, with that attitude your not gonna last much longer here.

Apple only has that revenue because its been on the go a hell of a lot longer than the google marketplace. But then you know that anyway but are obviously here to just cause trouble. Look, facts here are, android phones are more popular than the iphone. Googles marketplace in a short time have nearly caught up to apples userbase.

Whether you like it or not, apple are shiting themselves at this prospect. Better hardware, better OS - you figure it out.

Anyway all this from someone who's not even got an iphone how would you know anything about it?

Not really. It doesn't have a physical keyboard, it's camera is only 5 megapixels, its screen is smaller than some, it doesn't have an SD slot.

I thought the large majority of Android phones don't have a physical keyboard and have a 5MP or less camera?

The screen is larger than most, with the Desire HD I think the only one slightly larger right now.

Why so much criticism aimed at The Gadget Show?

Where else are you going to find out which gadgets can survive being set on fire, dropped from a plane, swallowed and then shat back out?

Ok so it doesn't have the best hardware specs possible but none of those allow other phones to do something it can't. i.e. it can still take decently hi-res pictures, it has a screen, it has an on-screen qwerty keyboard. The SD card slot would allow testing of some features such as installing apps to SD but this is just an expansion of basic memory anyway.

Given the limited time, they were going to pick only one Android phone as it's more of a platform test. I guess to be fairest they have to pick a stock Android phone. But most of those things would be the same as on a skinned phone - the google maps navigation, the browser etc. Only the keyboard would be different in terms of the tests they did.

Those "facts" have nothing to do with your original point. It in no way prove that devs aren't making money on Android or that "fragmentation" is the reason why. Also, iOS has fragmentation problems, have a Google about, read the blogs, SO questions and articles written by real iOS developers rather than swallowing everything Apple says.

I have an iOS app waiting for approval atm and I can tell you that just having to dick about with iPad, retina and "normal" res layouts is a complete pain in the bum.

Also there is more ways to make money on a platform than just pure sales. Spotify's app is free so by your logic they aren't making any money from mobile platforms, I bet they see it differently.

Is it just me or has this forum taken a turn for the worse again? :yawn:

Bottom line of this thread should be to take Gadget Show reviews with a pinch of salt. They can be one-sided and done in a manor to give inaccurate results. I'm actually surprised that no one has attempted to sue them before for false advertising.

I haven't watched the reviews myself, but if what someone said in that the iPhone was using maps that were pre-installed for sat nav compared to the Nexus S which was required to use it's data connection is true. Then that's shocking to then say as part of the conclusion that the Nexus S has a poorer battery life as the test was unfair. They should have paid for some sat-nav software on the Nexus which pre-installs the maps too, then it would have been a fairer test when it comes to battery life.

the problem is with the gadget show reviews is you'd need one whole hour for each device and just having four is very silly indeed

this forum should be able to discuss something like the gadget show's review of four phones without it becoming all about the iPhone.

for some reason we can not do that.

saying that the gadget show is ridiculous shouldn't be perceived as a slight against the iPhone that need to be defended against.

we're not discussing the the review on the gadget show anymore. it's come down to another list of reasons why the iPhone is so awesome and everything else is rubbish.

it's actually pathetic.

the iPhone isnt the be all and end all... I have a HTC desire which can do so much more tba an iPhone and I have an ipod touch...

I don't think that is what he was meaning, just that he was saying most threads come down to that type of argument. People claiming the iPhone is amazing and all other phones are poor, that is what he is saying these threads turn into and he isn't himself saying the iPhone is the best.

Unless I've read that wrong and he is
