hello everyone,

I was wondering what you all give your cats as treats? i feel a bit bad for just letting them have plain old cat food!
But i'm never sure what i should give them as treats - i usually give them some of my fish if i'm having fish & chips, but they just turn their nose up at it!
I've also tried little tins of fish in spring water like tuna / sardines, but they're quite fussy little things & turn their noses up at that too!
Compared to my mums cats who love fish !
As a very rare treat i sometimes let them lick cream from an empty trifle pot, which one of them loves! (i know cats shouldn't have milk / cream, but ive only given it to her twice & she s been fine) .

So what do you all treat your cats to?

She occasionally likes a nibble at a bit of cheese.

This has come in very handy now that it looks like she'll need to take a tablet (which can't be ground down) every day for a heart condition.

Instead of trying to force it down her throat I just hide it in a bit of cheese (about the size of a pea) and it's gone in 2 seconds!

Boiled chicken always a favourite, as is roast beef.

Every day mine get a couple of "Thomas Treats" treats - they are cheap and nasty but the cats love them.

My ginger tom will eat anything: cat food, meat, cake, pastry, spaghetti, sweet corn, curry, anything. When you are eating something he comes up beside you and tries to pull your fork hand toward him.

Mine are into dreamies at the moment. They go mental at them and wont leave the kitchen when they know we have them.

Whiskas Temptations (especially the ones with the cheese in them, yuck) are equally addictive!

Mine have Tesco fish treats or Whiskas temptations - they go nuts for them and if I'm anywhere near the cupboard where i keep them they instantly appear pawing my leg and miaowing. I am stingy with them though and only let them have 3 or 4 nuggets a day

There's a new range of liquidy food things out just now in supermarkets called "Lick-e-Lix" in 2 different flavours (5 sachets per box). I bought them to try out as they are on special offer in Sainsbury's for about 60p, and my cat devoured the whole thing in seconds, so I've been back a few times to stock up.

Other than that, my cat will eat just about anything treat-wise from boiled eggs to white chocolate.

My friend told me his cats go mental for Dreamies (as mentioned by Maisey) - I must get some. Currently my cats have Thrive treats (which are freeze dried fish) and they go mental for those - shake the tube and they will arrive from half a mile away.

Tsk.

Mine go bonkers for coley poached in milk & water, garnished with a few snipped up prawns.

They especially love the "fishy milk". Their little pink tongues lap at a hundred miles an hour!

My cat goes mad for dreamies too! The reaction is quite hilarious! She seems to favour the cheese ones best.

Dreamies certainly seem to be the trend atm - my cat loves them ... he ignores me when I call his name <I thought at first he was deaf!!> but shake a dreamies packet and he`s right at my feet.

Love their advert on tv where the cat comes through the wall

My cat used to love Whiskas Temptations but was then found to be diabetic so he has to have a strictly controlled diet now .

Still treat him with stuff like the spring water from tuna, gammon, mackerel & finally found a sugar/cereal free treat called Thrive. It's weird freeze dried chicken & stupid expensive but he absolutely loves it; whiskers go mad sniffing as soon as the lid is off.

Cheese and Broccoli Pasta, chips and curry sauce, sponge pudding and Ritz Cracker.

Washed down with a sneaky swipe of my cup of tea, if I turn my back on her.

Winnie loves cod. She has some cod for tea sometimes once a week if we have it.

She also likes ham. I break it up into little pieces and she eats that very happily.

She has little cat treats such as Dreamies and chewy sticks.

That's it, really.

I gave a packet of dreamies away to the local shops cat today. They like all the flavours theres 5 of them. With me having 15 cats they dont get alot of them though. You only have to start tearing the packet open and they are there. Its a brilliant product. Even my picky cat likes them. They also has tuna, ham, chicken, prawns only asda frozen ones, mackerel in tomatoe sauce only asda again and a couple like milk(they dont get a lot )fresh chicken from asda, some nick bread and butter but only breadcakes and anything they can get there paws on. They arnt overweight by any chance.

Sami won`t eat any fish apart from salmon - we`ve tried tuna/whitebait/cod etc., fresh/tinned or packet he just turns his nose up at it.

Fussy !!

I used to give my 2 Maine Coons Dreamies which they loved but the Vet said their teeth were not in good shape for their age and thought it might be the treats I then changed to Whiskas Dentabits which are supposed to be good for their teeth and next time I took them to the vets she said there was a marked improvement They seem to like the Dentabits too so I would recommend them!

I used to give my cat tinned tuna a lot, he loved it, however, I found out it can hasten tooth decay(amongst other things) in cats according to my vet. (he had to have a tooth pulled when he was younger, because of decay). The vet asked me what I fed him, as soon as I mentioned tinned tuna, he said that was the problem, tuna is missing vital minerals the cat needs, and can lead to it being susceptable to ailments such as tooth decay.

So now he gets Tescos 'cat sticks' as his treat ...poor kitty, he did love his tuna.

Mine love these Felt really guilty recently as mine only ever get Whiskas or Go-Cat dry biscuits so wanted to treat them a bit

It makes me laugh though when I have any sort of hot meal... they sit at my feet like " Ok, so are you going to share or what!?!?"

is it wrong that for the first couple of seconds after reading that, I thought it meant call of duty?!

even though ive never even played it in my life... and dont play on computer games... my brain associates cod with the computer game, before it thinks of fish.

By a large I don't, though they all love cat-nip drops as sold at Asda. However it is useful having a cat that will do anything (almost) for some sort of treat. I used to be able to slip a Synulox to Billy along with one of those Whiskas cheese & chicken treats (he took them from my hand), and when he had a really nasty dose of flu the sight and sound of the packet helped him start to eat again.
