Espresso or nothing for me, although too many make you feel awful when the buzz wears off.

Snap, I've gone 3 machines in the last 5 years because they get a hammering. Favourite coffee - Waitrose Columbian Blend.

Ooooh I've got to go and do one now

Yeah I like coffee as well. I admit you can tell the difference between the instant and the freshly ground stuff quite a bit. There is a big quality gap flavour wise shall we say.

I go into Cafe Nero's quite a bit and they do a decent cup. I quite cappucino and lattes at the moment, but have tried an expresso or two. I admit the caffeine buzz in the morning is quite an addictive buzz and also wakes you up some what.

Funny that this thread got posted up here as I was thinking of getting one of those Nespresso machines. Has anyone got one and do they do a good cup? Or should I go the whole hog and invest in a proper machine? I know it is going to end costing me a fortune.

As for instant stuff - well Kenco and Dowe Eberts actually do have a least a decent strong flavour compared to the other instant varieties.

Does anyone like cafe au lait(the French coffee) as well?

I've just bought a Magimix M190 with aeroccino - a nespresso machine.

I currently own a Gaggia Espresso Machine, good burr grinder and import nice coffee for it. However, it's time-consuming, a pain in the bum to make cappuccinos.

The nespresso coffee-maker is an absolute pleasure - the coffee's just as good as my freshly roasted/ground but without the time and effort. Making our way through the 16 grand crus that come with it so we can pick out our favourites and order more.

Best thing I've ever bought - a cool, cool gadget that delivers gorgeous espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, americanos, in less than 2 minutes from plugging it in.

Have gone from being a ritualistic coffee snob to a Nespresso fan in an instant. If you have a Selfridges near you, go in and get them to make you a couple so you can try it out first. Wouldn't have believed the quality before actually trying it and I've slagged off the Nespresso machines for years. Go for it, they're simply quite brilliant!

Okay thank you for the reply. I even started up another thread discussing the Nespresso machines.

The smell of fresh strong coffee, like the smell of freshly baked bread is one of the best food smells.

Love coffee, drink it most days. Don't rate instant though and I refuse to pay for an overpriced mug with overheated milk.

That said, I tried the new Starbucks instant coffee recently and it's quite good and nothing like other instant coffees.

I love coffee!

& like you OP, when I was younger I really didn't like it, now I probably drink it more than tea.

That's never been the case for me.

LOVE coffee... can't imagine starting the day without one. Hence love our bean to cup machine. Problem is that once you get used to the taste of really good coffee, everything else - even from coffee shops e.g. Starbuck's, no longer tastes "right".
I didn't get into the coffee habit until my 30's. Never liked the taste before then, but found it a good, calorie free treat when I was dieting, and learned to love it.

Anyone ever used a Moka pot(to make stove top coffee). I found my old one in a cupboard. Will it work on a ceramic hob?

I have had one for ages, its the only way I make coffee at home. Bought it on holiday in Tenerife.

Didn't know it was called a Moka pot until I read your post and googled it.

I would doubt it, used it on electric in the apartment in Tenerife, but have gas at home. Would never have anything else.

Big fan of coffee but I try to only drink a single cup a day because more than that makes me crash on the other side. I do tend to drink about 8 cups of green tea per day tho that probably keeps my caffeine levels on the up.

For coffee, I buy Blue Mountain from a bloke down the local market, he has huge bags of about 20+ different varieties. I buy the beans and grind them with a nice little japanese conical burr grinder I picked up, fits in the hand, just right for a single cup. And prepare in a french press.

That being said. If I needed to pull an all nighter then coca cola everytime, sure it ain't good for you, but all that sugar + caffeine will keep you concentrated like nothing else.

I have to drink caffeine free these days.

Douwe Egberts instant pure decaff and Kenco decaff are two I've found palatable.

Had to go back to page 29 to find this thread

I've been drinking coffee since giving up on the breast milk. I didn't like tea so my parents gave me coffee (understand that would be classed as child abuse in some American States). Started off with plain old bog standard Nescafe (milk and three spoons of sugar ), then switched to Nescafe Gold Blend before eventually ending up with Nescafe Blend 37 (no milk/no sugar). Oh...nearly overlooked the couple of years I spend grinding and filtering Kenyan Coffee Beans.

Now....I'm hooked on Costa Double Espressos. Understand they give some people a temporary buzz but have no effect on me...I just love the taste

Since I last posted in this thread I have developed a bit of a thing for Latte's

I still can't abide them from the chain coffee shops but there is a lovely little independant coffee place near my office... I have a Latte almost everyday now!!

So my revised answer is I was 31 when I started to appreciate coffee

I love coffee and never drink tea. Ever! My parents too used to give it to me as a child and it's my favourite hot drink by far.

I've been drinking coffee for years but I didn't really become a coffee connoisseur until I visited Italy in the early 90's---and the Italians still know how to make the perfect latte.

I've tried coffee at other chains but Costa is by far the best.I have a latte every day after work and treat myself to a flat white on the weekends.

I also have a Mukka cappuccino maker that I bought in Sicily so I have my coffee fix in the morning, too.I like the New York Blend ground coffee from M&S.

I never, ever drink tea or coffee from anywhere.

If I make it at home, it'll be maybe once a month or two months, and it's coffee. It has to be Douwe Egberts with evaporated milk and sugar.

Also love frappucinos from Starbucks, no one else can match up.

The beans used in high st coffee chains seem very bitter. At home, I'm quite happy with the more expensive freeze dried instant, they're not bad.

I drink it made completely with milk. It's how my parents always made it. The water stuff makes me sick, but I suppose I'll have to get used to it!

I'd agree with you if you are talking about Starbucks coffee but Costa coffee is totally free of any bitterness

Was buying some coffee for my Gaggia the other day and found that the packets are generally very poor in terms of their descriptions. I'm all for trying different beans from a variety of producers but I don't want to take pot luck.
